Today we’d like to introduce you to Evan Ponter
Hi Evan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I moved to Los Angeles from Pennsylvania in 2013. I’ve always been inspired by the culture in LA, so I knew I had to be here to grow in my own creativity. I worked for years in ad firms around the city doing marketing for film and television. The entertainment advertising world in LA is a small but mighty community that is always pushing and inspiring and showing up 15 minutes late to happy hours. I eventually went in-house at Netflix where I worked on shows like Squid Game, Wednesday, Bridgerton, and Stranger Things. Last year, I went out on my own and created Spacetown Studio. My main goal was to create impactful campaigns and go back to the basic ethos of making cool shit.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve experienced a lot of struggles. LA is not for the faint of heart! From layoffs to parking tickets, this city throws you a curveball every day. But if I’m being honest, the biggest challenge is to always stay focused and grounded. It’s easy to want to do everything. Be the guy who is at every party, wake up early to work out, land that next big deal. But what’s hard in this city full of so much temptation and envy, is to actually zero in and focus.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a creative director and strategist in the creative marketing space. I’m best known for making high-impact campaigns for some of the biggest shows in the world. I pride myself on being able to not just respond to culture, but to create it with creative work that gets people talking. What mostly sets me apart is trying desperately not to fit into a mold! I want everything I do to be new and unique.
