Today we’d like to introduce you to Elaina Wilcox
Hi Elaina , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve started doing hair in Cincinnati Ohio over 20 years ago. I worked as a stylist and trainer for a salon chain called Glemby for a couple of years, I left that position after several years and worked for Saks 5th Avenue Salon. I worked as a stylist and runway show coordinator. I worked with fashion companies as well as hair and makeup to coordinate shows at Saks and other events featuring fashion and style.
After working in Downtown Cincinnati for many years, I moved to Austin Texas where I worked as a stylist and makeup artist. I worked with other stylist and Makeup Artist for several years. I then moved to Los Angeles where I started doing hair in Culver City. I opened Color And Craft Salon on Main Street five years ago! I love our salon it is a good blend of upscale style with a laid-back vibe.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Building a clientele is never easy. It takes hard work and diligence. In the beginning you don’t make a lot of money, and then the days before social media you did a lot of passing out cards, sitting in the salon waiting for walk-ins and sweeping a lot of hair for other busy stylist. It can be very daunting but if you have patience and true talent it will pay off!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a hairstylist that specializes in soft textured haircuts as well as color. My color specialty is Hand Painted Balayage. I love Very lived in yet bright color that compliments not only your skin tone but your lifestyle.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Follow people on social media that you admire. Ask to come into their salon and shadow them for a few days. Be willing to come in to the salon and assist other stylist and learn from them.
