Daily Inspiration: Meet EJ Hoffman

Today we’d like to introduce you to EJ Hoffman.

EJ, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey grooving on the dance floor began originally in my warm San Antonio, TX home. I remember being so compelled to teach movement to my cousins and siblings. At 15, I went as far as creating an organization where I could gather all the kids in the neighborhood and bring them all to a free open space at a church to come dance and learn hip hop (breakdancing at the time was all I wanted to learn and teach).

Fast forward to the end of high school. After showing commitment to my craft and dedication to my choreography in sophomore year, my “Dance 1” teacher Ms. Agrait started to give me opportunities to assist in choreography ideas and concepts for the live dance shows we held at school apart of the arts program. I quickly realized I was meant for this and kept the same simplistic formulas I learned growing up in a family that did take business, even small business, very seriously. I made flyers, hosted BBQ’s, outings for minorities of all backgrounds to come and pay for a plate of food to support my cause (I was always up to a new passion project). I did whatever I could with what resources I had to continue to grow my artistry, my brand and ultimately support myself at that young age, which I did. In result, I’m now 24, living in Los Angeles, California. I have gained so much industry knowledge & have been able to choreograph for amazing upcoming artists and dance, even if briefly, for a legend like Paula Abdul. My latest endeavor is my training organization called MAD, Movement Artist Development, for professional artists in the industry to explore themselves & sharpen their skills. I plan on making this an entire traveling event successfully.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not always been an easy road. Especially being a young entrepreneur in a world where that didn’t exist yet, years ago. I had to constantly prove my maturity, which I had. My small body was just not going to be taken seriously.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am 24, living in Los Angeles, California currently. I am a professional choreographer, dancer, and iPhone Cinematographer (seriously) for Dancers/Performance Artists. My current project and organization is MAD, movement artist development. A professional organization (18+) of passionate artists coming together and training from a collection of LA’s top tier up and coming industry choreographers! What sets me apart and my events, brand and organization is my ability to empathize. I’m most known for my hard work ethic. I never stop working till I achieve my goal. I feel the key to business and artistry IS to do something important. Something that matters to humanity. Something of a real legacy being of addition to the to the world! Especially with movement art.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I’ve always had guardians in some shape or form guiding me. I feel as if I’ve always had clear direction forwards what to do by some higher source. In business, I’ve always had a good support system and a healthy following in real life of clients. I am always grateful for that connectivity.
