Today we’d like to introduce you to Drew Moore
Drew , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I spent 14 years in addictive addiction. Alcohol and drugs controlled my life and I did not know how to stop. During Covid 4/9/20, I nearly lost my life to an overdose of fentanyl. Luckily, my dad was there to give me CPR until the paramedics arrived and were able to bring me back with narcan. I started to dive into recovery and I have been sober since 4/10/20. I attend support group meetings and I found that talking to others about my addiction opens up a door that allows them to tell me about theirs. I started The Sober Fix podcast a year ago with the idea that I wanted to tell my story and try and reach those that are in addiction or now living a sober life. I bring guests on to the show to tell others how they are able to live a sober life and continue to recover from their addiction. There are people dying everyday in the U.S from opiate related overdoses and I want those suffering to know that there is a way out. I used to think of my past and feel nothing but regret, shame, and guilt. I know now because of a recovery program that all of my past experiences are now on my resume to help others. The podcast has allowed me to meet new sober people and my goal is just to spread hope and motivation to those in addiction or now living a sober life.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I had to learn everything along the way. I started off recording episodes on my iPhone with headphones. The sound wasn’t very good so I eventually got a mic. I don’t have a cohost so it was challenging recording a 30 minute episode by myself. I had to learn how to promote on social media and eventually learned how to make an intro and outro for each episode. I have definitely had some bumps along the road and some learning lessons but I am grateful for the opportunity.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am the producer/host of The Sober Fix Podcast. I also make a lot of content relating to addiction and sobriety. My overall goal with all of this is to reach those that are suffering and let them know that there is a way out. I was afraid to give up alcohol and substances and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I am most proud of myself for opening up. I used to hide my addiction issues for fear of judgement and I finally found a way to get over that. I think my podcast is different because most sober podcasts have the guest tell their whole story and the host doesn’t really say anything. I try to ask the guest questions that I think are valuable to those listening. I try to dive deeper into their recovery program versus just having them talk the whole time.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My sobriety will always be my number one priority. Without it, I will lose everything else anyway. I have proven that to myself over and over. I have found that as long as my sobriety is number 1 and I am connected spiritually, everything else seems to work out. Sobriety enables me to be there for my family and friends and that is what is important to me. My addiction was driven by selfishness and self centeredness, and I combat that today with trying to help others.
