Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Amelia Philson. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Dr. Amelia Carter-Philson has always been fond of writing since an early age of 10. Her dream of becoming a Teacher, Nurse & Doctor. started after graduating high school. During her undergraduate years, her role as a professional began to surface as she entered courses that would allow her to develop into her role as a medical professional. She worked with doctors at Memorial Hermann Medical Group and Baylor Methodist Primary Care Associates, Houston Texas, in the fields of Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Orthopedics, and Endocrinology for 14 years. Those physicians helped to shape her knowledge of the medial industry and the need to promote healthcare importance in many areas of the African American communities. At that moment, she realized that health literacy is important for everyone and how pivotal it is to be able to find, understand, and use health information services. In her Graduate years of study, she knew that it was necessary to obtain a Master of Science in Human Services because she saw a need to help individuals meet their human needs. A non-profit would be inevitable. The year 2015, she was blessed with a Second Master’s Degree. She obtained a Master of Science in Psychology. Her curiosity expanded as she saw a need to help individuals that struggle with challenges physically, mentally, and emotionally. Her Christian devotion has always been in the front and Center of her life. Merged with her Spirituality, her basic instincts helped her to seek guidance from God and this would lead her to her PH. D in Metaphysics. This degree helped to bring an awareness to a branch of philosophy that deals with God and how he deals the principle of things. Dr. Philson has been a Christian for over 50 years and attends The Evolution Church in Houston, Texas. Standing on the promises of God, he blessed her to write her first book in 2020, “Your Peeve, Power & Praise.” With much guidance, she wrote three other published works, ” “No Tears in his Present Glory”. and “When Others choose Others, God Decides’, and lastly, ” Reprobation, An Unconscious Driven Mind”, which was published, November 2023. Her writing is her passion, but more importantly than that, her love for God outweighs her educational success. She started an organization in January 2022 called, (JBAGB)-JustbeaboutGodsbusiness.org. The main goal is to deliver Hat Wigs to Cancer patients/Survivors who are in Cancer treatment and for those who have undergone Cancer treatment and have hair loss (Alopecia) from Chemo and Radiation. The proceeds help to purchase products that are used to make the Hat Wigs. The Hat Wigs have been donated to several Cancer Institutions in Houston Texas, such as Oncology Consultants & Memorial Hermann Cancer Institution. Dr. Philson has been a member of the National Institute of Health, American Psychological Association, as well as Walden University’s chapter of the National Society of Leadership & Success, Sigma Alpha Pi.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Although it has not been a smooth road, it has been a struggle to get to this point. But with the grace of God, I have pushed through to a better level of my life and career. I had Breast Cancer in 2010 that allowed me to place my educational endeavors on hold. I obtained my degrees at a later age, and because of this, I have struggled to get proceeds to help with my organization. Through it all, I keep my faith in God, and I continue to seek after him. I push through, although some Sundays my energy level is not where I need it to be, but I thank God that I am still eager, willing, & positive, and surrounded by my husband, family, church family, and friends that love and care for me. I stand on the promises of Hebrews 11:6 that says, without “faith,” it is impossible to please him; for he that cometh to God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an Author, Writer, and Publisher of several published works. Those works are discussed in a prior section of the interview. My goal is to reach individuals who struggle with bad challenges that have placed them in dark places. I believe that I can not only reach them in their mental and physical areas but what is also important is their spiritual health. I have been afforded the opportunity to Life Coach as well as use my psychological skills in many areas of individuals’ lives.
I am semi-retired, and in my pastime, I also teach English as a Second language to out-of-state/country Adults and Children. I also make Hat Wigs for Cancer Patients, along with Door Wreaths. The Hat Wigs are donated to various Cancer Institutions. I formed the Organization (JBAGB)- JustbeaboutGodsbusiness.org in 01/2022. All books, hat wigs, and door wreath items are listed on my website.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is health, family, love & purpose. If our health is not up to par, we are unable to function on this road called “Life.” We must do all that we can to stay healthy and also lead others in a direction that will allow them to live healthy lifestyles, whether it is physically, mentally, or spiritually. We need more individuals in this world that genuinely care about the well-being of others. God is not a selfish God, and his greatest commandant is that we love each other. We also have to give selfishly to our purpose in life and not allow the struggles of the world and coherent mentalities to dictate our directions in life. When there is transparency, there is trust, and where there is trust, there is God.
