Daily Inspiration: Meet David Franks

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Franks

David, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
David co-founded the Calabasas Golf Academy in 2015. He has been a Class A PGA Professional since 2009. He is FlightScope and TrackMan Certified. He is also Hank Haney Certified. David graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs with a Bachelor’s in Marketing and PGA Golf Management.

David has been playing golf for thirty years. He has over fifteen years of teaching experience, including six years at The Broadmoor Golf Club in Colorado Springs and five years at GolfTEC in Woodland Hills. In that time, he has taught over ten thousand golf lessons to players of all ability levels, ages, and backgrounds.

David enjoys pursuing the highest level of his own game and competitive golf on local mini tours and in professional events. He loves to travel and play with aspirations of playing at the PGA Tour level.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Anybody who says the road has been perfectly smooth is probably omitting some details. I am incredibly fortunate to have a lot of opportunity and have had some success playing and teaching.

The bumps in the road have served as valuable lessons, but only when i started to view failing as an opportunity to learn. Such events taught me to value the good times and be grateful for everything because nothing is promised and things can change in an instant. I’ve learned to be present and value each day as if I won’t get it back.

I’ve also had loss in my life. Although not easy, I do my best to use it as further fuel to get the most out of life because it’s not promised either.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a golf professional by trade. I specialize in instruction. I teach all experience levels and ages. I teach in person lessons around in Los Angeles as well as online.

I’m most proud of the work that I’ve done with junior golf. It’s incredibly rewarding to watch a young person develop from a beginner at age 6 to 10 and then become a successful high school or college player. Golf has certainly saved my life, hopefully it will make a huge difference in theirs as well.

I think the fact that I’m highly active in competing as well as teaching sets me apart from much of the golf industry. Many of my peers feel as though they don’t have time to do both, but I make it a priority to put my full effort into both.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Chipotle. It’s got everything-nutrition, flavor, convenience. It’s perfect.
