Daily Inspiration: Meet David Che

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Che.

Hi David, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We are Caodai followers. from Vietnam. Caodai is God’s religion that was bestowed to us in 1926 in Vietnam. Caodai is a religion of love, justice, unity and harmony. as we believe everything come from God. Since after the Vietnam war ended, a lot of Caodai followers came to the US and many other countries in the world. We gathered together and stablished Caodai Temples everywhere. Our group was the oldest group in southern California, United States.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As refugees, we came here with nothing. We have to build everything form stratch, and that included the Caodai community. Currently, there are about 6-7 Caodai Temples in Southern California. The Caodai Overseas organization is the oldest organization, and with limited resources, it seems that we are the only Caodai group that is working with other faiths in interfaith activities, that is actively doing charity works to help the community, and that also diligently working to propagate Caodai teachings to the world, We also are facing the challenges that are facing other religions: the dwindling youth membership. We are working to attract and involve more of the youth in charity work and in weekly worship. Language is also a big obstacle, as Caodai teachings are in Vietnamese, but this obstacle is diminishing, as AI translation is perfected..

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a practicing dentist. I was also an aerospace engineer, and an MBA student at CSULB. I have always interested in religions and philosophy, and my background in science and engineering allows me to have a more methodical or analytical view of religious teaching. Because of my interest, I was blessed to learn from many Caodai brothers and sisters about the meanings of Caodai teachings. I am indebted to my Dad, Doctors Hum Bui and Rose Bui, Kham Bui, Brother Minh Tranh, and Brother Khanh Bui fo rtheir help in learning about Caodai. I am currently the president of Caodai Overseas organization, and we operate two Caodai Temples (in Anaheim and in Pomona) and the Caodai Center. We are the only Caodai group that have monthly charity activity, monthly scripture discussion, and weekly Chi (internal energy) exercise and and meditation session.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
It is love: kindness, caring, and service to others that will drive our efforts to propagate the teachings of God, Caodai.
