Today we’d like to introduce you to Cristina Lopez.
Hi Cristina, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’d like to think I’ve been a creative since childhood and that’s what’s driven my journey.
I started out drawing and painting as a child, my favorite pastime besides reading. Both fueled me, everything driven by storytelling.
As a teen I bought my first camera, a little digital Canon point and shoot (funny how they are so popular now!) photography morphed into my passion, I started content creation through recipes and little vignettes; slices of life and blogging
I went to college and majored in psychology, at that time I believed I would have followed into a masters program and become therapist but my Saturn return said otherwise. I left the case management field and went back into content creation and marketing. I was driven to tell stories, and build community.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Can the high performing academics raise their hands? I was driven to graduate from college, to be the first in my family to do so, and then I did with a BA in psychology! I never felt comfortable. In my mind and body I was driven to create and follow that calling. I think moving out and doing a lot of healing was the biggest catalyst for change.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Community Specialist at Hart & Highland. My role focuses on building genuine connections between brands and their audiences through social listening and tracking community sentiment. I believe social media should be fun, and I love thinking creatively about brand building. I’ve always wanted to work in a creative field and so I believe I’ve manifested this job, and approaching my third year! We work with amazing clients and I love my team so much.
In my free time, I’m creating home cafe content. Gluten free and coffee/tea recipes. To me everything is art, and I love cooking but making it a beautiful sensory experience, my dream is to host little parties or coffee dates at home. I also love going out to shoot with my film camera and making memories.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I believe in calculated risk. It’s good to look and plan before your leap. When I decided that I wasn’t going to pursue a masters in therapy, I saved up my money to to follow my dreams in a creative field. It was a little nerve racking but I had my fiancé’s support and while I took a risk I was very adamant on honing my skills creatively, networking, not spending too much and then I landed a job at the agency I am at now!
