Today we’d like to introduce you to Connie Powell.
Hi Connie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up entertaining and found myself loving hairdressing. I wanted to incorporate all the different aspects of my life so I created and opened Lola and Roxy’s Hair Studio where vintage meets rock and roll and everything in between. I love all aspects of hairdressing. Creative color as well as natural looks require an artistic eye. I feel fortunate to have an amazing clientele in which I get to create art and “hang out with my friends” on a daily basis.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I did open the business in 2010 which was apparently the worst time to do that according to the economy but I guess being oblivious to those facts and having passion really paid off. I also ended up having my house burn down and hospitalized for an ectopic pregnancy rupture both in 2013. I thought on both occasions my business was going to crash but it thrived and having my work to go to every day was my saving grace on both occasions.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I still sing and entertain while I get to create beautiful hair. I love the flexibility my work gives me so I can continue in the entertainment business as well. I don’t have to pick just one path. I get to have my cake and eat it too. :). In all honesty, I think what sets me apart is, I listen, I love the challenge of creating the client’s vision. I’m most proud of my relationship with my clients. I love putting smiles on their faces. I’m known for super creative colors as well as natural soft highlights. I love it all! I do a variety of colors, cuts, extensions, organic smoothing treatments, and I love learning new techniques every day.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t necessarily believe in luck. I believe our life path is already made out for us and everything happens for a reason. We may not know the reason initially but there’s a reason regardless. I have faith in the universe and I am grateful every day for life and career. Gratitude is the most important key to success.
