Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Macias
Hi Christopher, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Music is something I’ve felt very passionately about since I could remember. I grew up listening to 90’s house, Drum n Bass, Rap and Metal. From there I just wanted to discover every genre and sound I could and dug through music whether it was via the internet or physical audio.
I started DJing when I was 14 by mixing on a free software and recorded mixes just for myself and learned what every button and knob did. I then took my skills to a physical DJ controller and started to DJ for events, house parties and kept expanding from there.
Music has given me amazing experiences, I’ve been able to play at many amazing stages and share them with legends such as Kal Banx (T.D.E), DJ Starza, Barley Alive & Don Dirty.
Music has also provided me with the opportunity to be a radio host for the past three years with two separate radio shows. TAKEUTHERE RADIO show focuses on local and worldwide music with interviews for special guest where as SOUND SYSTEM is a show that is more focused on an electronic dance music from all around the globe.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not a smooth ride but I am grateful for all the bumps in the road that became lessons. I’m only 29 but I wanna say I’ve seen it all from being ripped off by club promoters, getting equipment stolen, drunk clients and everything in between.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My services include DJing private events, event coordination, stage management and creative design.
When DJing, I specialize in an open format style of mixing which means no genres are off limits, whether I’m DJing someone’s wedding or mixing my own music at a rave.
I want to say my most proudest moment so far is being the main DJ for Blaxicana Fest at Pershing Square. I was in the middle of DTLA DJing with legends and also with visuals behind me that I designed for myself and the other artists.
Any big plans?
Always got another project I’m working on but this year I’m working on a lot of my own productions. I’m hoping to release at least 2-3 EPs this year. I’m currently working on what I consider a “cinematic mix” which I feel is going to impact listeners the way Rage Against The Machine impacted me.
