Today we’d like to introduce you to Carolina Liz
Hi Carolina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Growing up in a family that didn’t really take me to museums or watch plays, I really don’t know how the universe conspired to make me become an artist. I guess I always had the need inside of me to express myself or make art no matter what. My circle of friends have also inspired me and pulled me to the artistic world. I had a very close friend that she was a professional actress at the time and spending time with her made me see life in a different way, different perspective.
I have chosen this path professionally when I became 13 and I’m grateful every day for that. There’s not a single day that I’m not happy doing my craft.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not. There were a lot of struggles along the way. But looking back, it was more about me not trusting myself enough and letting others get in my head. Voices like “you’re not good enough” or “you’re not pretty enough” or “you’re never gonna make it”. I would give a lot of power to these types of comments or opinions. But now that I’m older, I know that those things are not true and I’m glad that I decided to keep going.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an actress and filmmaker. My main dream is to keep telling stories. I think stories are so powerful and they really shape us as humans, how we think and how we see and approach life. Being an artist is feeling everything so deeply and putting so much effort and dedication into it because you know it’s gonna change/provoke someone when they see the final thing (either a movie or a performance) and that’s how we take care of the world.
I can’t talk about myself if I don’t bring how important diversity is to me. Being able to represent not only asians but also latinas on stage or on camera is such an honor to me, because I know how devastating it is to not see you represented out there.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Hopefully I’ll get to be part of many other movies and stories that are to be created. I’m currently obsessed with Bridgerton, the Netflix series so if I could be part of such magical universe like that, I’d feel really honored.
