Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenda Angel.
Hi Brenda, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my journey with painting—creating with the purpose of bringing light into other people’s lives. I didn’t always know where this path would lead me, but I followed my heart.
Over the years, that passion evolved—from canvas to clothing patches, murals, and community projects. What began as a personal expression has grown into something that connects, uplifts, and inspires others.
And that’s what keeps me going.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road to where I am today hasn’t been smooth, but I chose to stand in those hard moments and keep moving forward.
There were moments of self-doubt, especially in the beginning, when I wasn’t sure if my art had value or if anyone would connect with it.
I had to learn how to put myself out there, face rejection, and keep going despite setbacks. But every obstacle pushed me to grow—not just as an artist, but as a person.
Looking back, those struggles shaped my resilience. They taught me patience, persistence, and the power of staying true to my purpose—even when the road wasn’t clear.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I create art that fosters connection and community—specializing in hand-painted patches, murals, and collaborative projects. One piece I’m particularly proud of is a mural at the Encanto Community Center in San Bernardino, which honors the community’s resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic and celebrates our first responders. The mural was warmly received, with many noting how it enhanced the neighborhood’s spirit and inspired others to engage creatively. What sets my work apart is my commitment to intentionality—I strive to create pieces that not only beautify spaces but also evoke meaningful emotions and connection.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I’m really thankful to everyone who believed in me from the start. My family and friends are always there, pushing me to put myself out there and keep going.
I’m also lucky to be part of the printmaking collective Grafica Nocturna, which is a great creative community. Arts Connection has trusted me with some awesome projects, and the cities I’ve worked with have been amazing to create alongside.
All these people and groups have made a huge impact in my journey, and I’m grateful for their support every step of the way.
