Today we’d like to introduce you to Aya Zayter.
Hi Aya, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I graduated from college with an Electrical Engineering degree. During my search for a job (while covid was happening), I came to the realization that I didn’t want to dedicate so much of my time trying to apply to jobs that I have zero passion and love for. That’s when I decided to pursue acting. While I was still on the hunt for engineering jobs, I was also doing auditions. I ended up landing an engineering job (my day-job today) but that never stopped me from pursuing acting; if anything it made me realize my love for acting more. Recently, I wrote, produced, and starred in a short film, and if I’ve learned anything from that experience it’s that I wanna keep making my own stuff and starring in it!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It was most definitely not; the amount of rejections for roles definitely gets to you at some point. It makes you question your actual ability to act. I questioned myself quite often and when I was filming my short film I had severe imposter syndrome.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an actress. I haven’t been in anything on TV yet, but my short film, “Enough, Mama” is currently in post production. It is definitely one of my greatest accomplishments. What I believe sets me apart from others is my hope; I know I’m going to make it and I think that’s the most important thing I can do for myself.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Be yourself. People can smell a try-hard from a mile away, so, you don’t wanna be the person putting on a fake persona to be liked. The right people will like you when you’re yourself.
