Daily Inspiration: Meet Anissa Lyons

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anissa Lyons.

Hi Anissa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in a very outgoing Jamaican family where style was always paramount. I remember vividly watching my mom and older cousins get dressed in their finest to do whatever it was they were up to that night. Ever since then, the style has always been a great interest in my life. Fast forward to my teenage years of working retail at every major shopping destination you can think of in SoCal. From doing that, I gained tons of knowledge and crossed paths with many different ppl and perspectives that heavily impacted the way I design and who I design for – the everyday person. I would credit working in retail as a wonderful foundation for me as a fashion designer with no formal training because it enabled me to actually listen to clients’ needs, discover new and established brands and create a brand of my own with the knowledge I had accumulated. That was also my springboard into working in and around all facets of the fashion industry from styling, sales, graphic design, buying, manufacturing, costume design and now having my own private label production company aside from my own line, Eternaly Flawles.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been smooth but it’s also been a really beautiful, growth-filled journey. Finding someone to execute your vision in the standard that you see fit (especially if that standard is high) isn’t an easy feat. I’ve been doing this independently basically right out of high school and everyone knows the fashion industry isn’t a cheap world to survive in but by a ton of faith, discipline, focus and perseverance – all is truly possible. Looking back now, the bumpy roads really are the character-building keys in life. All the cliches about struggle is actually pretty true, lol.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I created my own brand, Eternaly Flawles that began with menswear and is now expanding into womenswear and accessories. We’ve been known for creating high-quality everyday pieces like our ‘Inner City Muse’ and ‘Golden Child’ designs that became a mainstay throughout our collections. Among other things, I also built a private label production company called Flawles Consulting that is based in DTLA where we collaborate with clients helping to build their brand and/or collections & products from inception to completion, down to packaging and fulfillment. I’m most proud that I keep integrity, passion and principle as primary focal points in my personal and professional life. It’s liberating and keeps me in a lane of my own. I do exactly what I feel every moment. There is no trend, person or thing that I follow. We are all individuals and I revel in all that it means to be 1 of 1.

How do you think about happiness?
Freedom, food and gratitude equally take me over the moon, lol! Both keep me grounded, present, satisfied and full of life. I’m simple.
