Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Petta.
Hi Angela, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
“Anything worth achieving is going to include rough terrain.” Angela Petta
In my youth, I applied to many opportunities in the beauty industry only to be turned down for one reason or another (too short 5’1, too curvy, too dark, too light). But I kept pushing forward never giving up my dream.
Being a woman, an intelligent woman and a woman of color comes with challenges, challenges of acceptance. The beauty industry has its idea of what beauty is. However, we all know that beauty comes in different colors, shapes, sizes, genders, ages and ethnicities.
One of my goals is for the beauty industry to be more inclusive of women 40+. I believe there need to be more advertisements including women 40+.
Fortunately, I was selected as one of eleven people selected for a skincare campaign by The Inkey List of 2020. I represented women over 40 at the age of 48. It was an exhilarating experience. I was among 20 somethings and was quite nervous. But something on the inside came alive and I shared my story. People were actually interested in what I had to say. Then, I was shopping in Sephora and I saw my own picture. I was shocked and happy at the same time. A woman of color, over 40 as a skincare model; could this become a new norm?
It was an experience I want for other women 40+ to have as well. We are not washed up; but we need and deserve to be seen, heard and celebrated.
This article is a platform for me to share that women 40+ are beautiful, amazing, talented, smart and should be showcased.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As a makeup artist, my specialty is using makeup to emphasize one’s natural beauty.
My claim to fame would be finding the just right color of foundation or custom blending one to meet the needs of my client. It is all about the client.
Before I start a session, I interview my client for about 20 minutes. I want to know what my client wants, how he/she wants to look and what they normally do. Makeup is a very personal choice. I do my best to always get a smile from my client that he/she is happy with the look we created together.
I am most proud of the four elderly ladies that I served when I worked at Merle Norman Cosmetics in Santa Monica, CA. The ladies would get their hair done, come to me and I would do their makeup. They would have lunch together. They did this once a month. I learned so much about their lives as young and mature women. Each time I received “the smile” as they gazed at their reflection in the mirror; my heart was filled with bliss.
What sets me apart from the rest is that I truly care about my clients. I want them to feel good about themselves no matter what phase of life they are in.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I would not call it luck, but blessings. I am a very dedicated and loyal worker. I believe I have a nice personality and work well with others.
I believe others in the workforce blessed me with opportunities; because they saw something in me. Each time I was given a chance, I rose to the occasion.
I am grateful for each opportunity that I have been and shall be given.
Gratitude takes a person a long way. I believe this completely.
