Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Spendlove
Hi Angel, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up Sydney, Australia, and was very serious about ballet. I was accepted into the Australian Ballet School, and eventually danced with some major ballet companies around the world, including The Hong Kong Ballet, English National Ballet, and Birmingham Royal Ballet.
After I retired from the stage, I settled in Toronto, Canada, and completed my BA in Environmental Design and Architecture from OCAD University. My fashion career began as a costume designer for ballet and contemporary companies before I created & FOR LOVE in 2014 with my best friend Lisa Blunt. I found there was a huge gap in the Canadian market for cool and effortless bridal wear, and we were picked up by Kleinfeld Canada, which established immediate brand legitimacy. We now have a global network of 25 stockists, and the brand has been featured in British Vogue, Australian Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, Brides, Martha Stewart Weddings, The LANE, ELLE, and Hello May.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
So many highs and lows! Financial stress, emotional stress… it never really stops. Covid was obviously a struggle as there were lots of delays with shipping and logistics, and it really impacted our supply chain.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
& For Love is a bridal brand that is renowned for its dedication to authentic style, effortless cool, and modern femininity. We are always pushing the envelope to redefine bridal fashion means, and offer a unique blend of contemporary aesthetics and timeless romance for brides worldwide.
I am most proud of our linen AULDYN gown. It’s a worldwide best seller, and it’s made of the softest and most beautiful linen ever. I’ve seen so many other brands try to copy it, but there is something our own linen, as well as the way ours is cut …the balance in ours makes it just perfect, and a copy is just never going to be the same. There’s a reason that brides seek it out!
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Be prepared for EVERYTHING!
