Today we’d like to introduce you to Agostina Cerullo.

Agostina Cerullo

Hi Agostina, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story begins in Argentina, where I was born, surrounded by a rich culture and a mix of family stories that shaped my view of the world. When I was 11, I moved to Spain, which was a big shift for me. Art was always my passion—writing, dancing, acting, and drawing. As I grew up, I got really into photography, capturing everyday moments and experimenting with different styles and lighting, all in a very DIY way, I loved creating sets, playing and performing with my siblings as they became my muses. My uncle, a photographer and teacher, inspired me to dive deeper into the art of photography.

Eventually, I found myself in London, juggling different jobs while discovering my voice as an artist and building a portfolio that reflected my vision. I studied Fine Art and later pursued a degree in Photography, and that’s when things really started to click. I immersed myself in the creative scene, worked on various projects, and landed internships and study opportunities abroad that taught me more about the creative industry—all while pursuing a career as a freelance photographer. It was wild, early mornings, late nights, learning curves, and moments of doubt, but also filled with so much growth and fun.

As a commercial photographer, I work with musicians, capturing their essence and style, creating album covers, promotional work, and documenting the behind-the-scenes of music videos. In my personal projects, I explore themes of love, loss, and identity, extending my practice to more experimental approaches like handmade photo book making, performance, and moving image.

I travel between London, New York, Los Angeles, and Buenos Aires, drawing inspiration from my experiences as a travelling artist. My work reflects this journey—it’s about exploring emotions and creating connections through visual storytelling. I’m still figuring things out, but I’m excited about where this path is leading me!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road! One of the biggest challenges has been dealing with the uncertainty that comes with a creative career. There have been times when I really doubted myself, but I kept pushing through. The pressure to succeed can be intense, and the fear of not being good enough sometimes feels like a heavy weight on my shoulders.

Juggling multiple jobs while studying and freelancing has been tough, too. Long hours, anxiety, and stress while figuring out how to manage my time to prioritize my projects have been a real challenge. Along the way, I’ve had to deal with my mental health, including periods of depression. There were moments when everything just felt like too much, and I often found myself feeling disconnected, unmotivated, and isolated. Recognizing those feelings and reaching out for support has been crucial. I’ve learned that it’s okay to take long breaks when needed and to lean on others or seek professional help—it can make a big difference in handling all the pressure.

The financial side of being a freelance photographer comes with its own struggles. It can be really unpredictable; not every month is the same. I’ve had to be resourceful, finding ways to invest in my work and keep creating even when money is tight.

Moving between different cities has its own set of challenges. Each place has its vibe, and sometimes it’s hard to feel grounded while trying to adapt and find inspiration in new settings—all while wanting to make connections, explore both the day and nightlife, work, and maintain some sort of routine.

Despite all this, each challenge has taught me something valuable and pushed me to grow as an artist. They’ve shaped my resilience and changed my perspective on creativity. Embracing the tough times has made this journey all the more rewarding. I’ve learned that being vulnerable can lead to deeper connections and understanding, both in my work and in my personal life.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a photographer, I aim to capture the raw emotions and stories that connect us all. I specialize in portraiture and documentary photography, blending commercial work with personal projects. In the commercial realm, I work with musicians, documenting their essence, creating album covers, and capturing behind-the-scenes moments that reveal the magic of the creative process. On the personal side, I document my environments, delving into emotions and the human experience.

What sets me apart is my storytelling approach through visuals. My background in fine art allows me to create images that are not only beautiful but also deeply meaningful. I appreciate the simplicity of my documentary work, but I also love experimenting with different styles and collaborating with other artists. This freedom lets me get creative with lighting, found objects, new techniques, and abstract concepts, pushing me to think outside the box and keeping my work fresh and engaging.

I take great pride in the connections I’ve built through my art. Whether collaborating with other artists or sharing my personal experiences, I cherish the moments when my work resonates with others. Each project is a chance to explore new ideas and dig deeper into my own emotions, and I feel grateful when that translates into something meaningful for my audience.

Ultimately, my journey as a traveler infuses my work with diverse perspectives and inspirations. I’m always striving to create visual narratives that encourage reflection and conversation, and I hope my unique blend of experiences shines through in everything I do.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I’m excited to share that one of my photography books will be published at the beginning of next year, encapsulating many of the themes I explore in my work. This project has been a labor of experimentation, discovery, and love, blending my personal experiences with the narratives I aim to convey through images. Additionally, I’ve started selling limited prints of some photographs featured in the book online. I love the idea that these pieces can find a home in someone else’s space.
