Today we’d like to introduce you to Ace Ramirez.
Hi Ace, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story starts here in LA. I was born in Artesia and then was moved to chino hills once my parents divorced. I grew up loving movies, telling stories, and obsessed with music. My dad was a DJ and my mom is a huge 80’s music fan so i grew up with some great listens. Once i reached high school i started messing around with my own remixes and learning the drums. I’ve also alway been an avid theatre goer and loved the way visuals and music cam together to tell a story. I still can remember the awe of seeing phantom of the opera on broadway in 8th grade and i was floored and the theatre kid in me was born. it lead me to being apart of theatre at school and starting a band with my friends called “Digital Frontier”. My first drum set was a black first act set, and i knew i needed an upgrade when i broke the cymbals and the kick drum pedal. My first big boy set was a pearl road show kit in red. I got it for my birthday and it was the best day ever. Another flash forward to college where i found sound design and composing. I fell in love with the life and emotion i could create with sounds and music. i fell in love with writing in my creative writing class. then boom those two loves came together when i started making music in 2019. I had been working in the film industry as a camera operator and sound designer before getting the chance to work in a music studio. I had met my current partner and she is a singer, multi instrumentalist, dj, and creative director. together we found a spark in not only each other but our creativity and formed the band Favorit. We have released a few songs and it has been such a rewarding experience to get to share and get to perform. I have gotten to perform in a few bands, theatre shows, and play at different venues all over LA. i love music and the way it connects us all with our shared experiences of life.
i got to share more of myself in 2024 when i released my poem book, called Inner Atlas. it is a collection of poems to help you navigate life and advice from me. a poem for every year that i have been alive and the themes of life as we grow, the second one is currently in the works!
I currently work as a composer and a drummer and hope to continue learning and creating with my fellow creatives. I’m working on getting to compose my first feature and have a few short films and commercials coming up this year as a composer. I’m going to expand my horizons as i am preparing to attend a broadway percussion and drum set seminar at NYU for Broadway. I have always dreamt of being on broadway in the pit. the city, the music, the culture. i adore. Being bi-coastal is the dream and with me currently working with an artist on an ep here in LA and preparing for New York. it has never seemed like more of a reality until now. I’m looking forward to releasing more music and create more and more sound scapes!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Luckily for me, it hasn’t been a smooth road. I say that because the challenges i have faced have shaped me and my art. I have struggled to get opportunities, I have dealt with hatred, projects being rejected and ruined, being a scapegoat, and family struggles. A lot of struggles i take as a learning experience, i only grow from learning and sometimes the door has to be locked or me to be rejected to find my way. my dreams have and always will lead me to where i am supposed to be.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a music producer/composer, drummer, and writer. I am most proud of the work i have done with my band Favorit and my poetry book. what sets me apart is my perspective and that i’m an odd ball. i have a different view on the world and i bring that to my creations along with my kindness, vulnerability, and joy.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
risk is everywhere in my life. I think i am a huge risk taker and i believe its a great way to commit to your goals. in order to reach a goal you have to risk it to get the biscuit. My view is that if its a risk, i already don’t have this opportunity, or moment, or status so the worst thing to happen is that i’m at the same place i was at, never a backwards step. i have taken a risk in loans, being vulnerable, and being kind to strangers. big risks and little risk always workout for me in the sense that i’m always gaining something. knowledge, a friend, or an opportunity. so i say always risk it if its aligned with what you really want!
