Today we’d like to introduce you to Young Invent.
Hi Young, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California Oct. 11, 1986. My mother is named Casandra and my father was named Jeffrey senior so of course, I got Jeffrey Jr. At the age of 12, my brother (Eddie Clocker) and I was sent to stay with my grand grandmother for the summer in Gulfport, Mississippi, it was a great amazing experience until I got hit by a car standing on the sidewalk. I was hospitalized for two months, the car accident had an almost completely severed one of my legs and broke the other one, broken my right wrist and scratched up most of my face. My mother flew out immediately and stayed for a month and a half but had to return to California because she had ran out of sick and vacation time. Doctors Slaughter told my family and I, I would never walk again and if I did, I’d have a severe limp but he was able to save my leg instead of amputating it. My great grandmother and mother pushed me to my maximum limit to get better.
With her and the Grace of God, I began to walk again fully no limp no anything just pure blessings. My brother and I moved back to Los Angeles, California and that’s where I fell in love with music, acting and art. So much so I joined drama and band in high school. My older brother Brandon use to be a DJ, he would play at all the local parties and take me. One day he told me to say something on the microphone to the party-goers, it was then I realized I had a voice for music. I start trying to freestyle and come up with songs and words that rhymed without writing it out. I would do this so much that I would always hear from my family and friends “he just be Inventing songs out the blue” Hence the name “Young Invent” and a star was born.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road travel has definitely had its fair shares of ups and downs. Most of it has been high notes, I’ve achieved a lot of great things in my road to fame so far. I have had a few stumbles where promoters have book me to open for huge name artist such as Snoop Dogg, Pitbull, 50 Cent, Rick Ross and then cancel last minute because they didn’t have the rest of the money to pay or just not let me perform at all because they ran out of time. Those were the worse because I told all my fans I was performing and when I didn’t, it definitely hurt the brand. Other than that, I worked with M4 promotions, Club City Promotions, Marty my Project manager and Juels of Rome as PR and great things are happening with them. Added on Xavier Johnson formerly Dirty Water as management and it’s been an easy road indeed.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ve been in major press write ups and interviews like Voyager LA (very honored) My single release, Mucho Fuego; co-produced by E.R.G. & The Doja is launched via Clear Channel Promotion and creating a huge buzz. Also available on iTunes. It was featured in Loins gate movie “American Bad Boy” 2015 Staring Katt Williams and other stars. I also did some film work and was featured as an actor in Mac and Devin go to high school (Snoop Dog and Whiz Kalifa) but my break out role was on Disney Channel show “Walk The Prank” released Nov 16′ where I was a sale man for a store and got more then I bargain for. I did an International wide Pink Kisses Tour (over 22 cities) before the pandemic. The video for “Mucho Fuego” (directed by Young Invent) is out now on Youtube and VEVO and has close to 100,000 views. Once released peaked at 98 on top 100 billboard 2014 also my new single “Deep End” is climbing the charts and has gotten me a write up on billboards hip hop and so much more but I’m just happy when people listen to my music and tell me how they love it or it saved them.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love how Los Angeles is very multicultural, it’s a mixing pot but to the point where most of us don’t really call ourselves different. We understand everyone has a different way of living and that’s awesome to me. There are locations where transgenders and gays are accepted and loved freely like West Hollywood, people of any religion and creed can live in peace and all races are accepted by the masses. As a black man, Los Angeles has had some situations that didn’t sit well with the Black and Latin community my community but overall, Los Angeles is definitely been the least judgmental city I lived in.
