My Journey in Beauty & Wellness
I began my cosmetology career in 1984, right after high school, working as an apprentice in a Santa Monica salon. Those early years were filled with hard work, long hours, and plenty of challenges—but I kept hustling, determined to grow in the industry I loved.
In 2003, I discovered El Segundo and stepped into Grand Illusions for an interview. I started the very next day, and within just three months, I was offered the opportunity to take over ownership of the salon. It was the challenge I had been searching for—though far greater than I ever imagined.
Over the years, I’ve faced the ups and downs of expansion, survived three remodels, and navigated the constant rhythm of hiring and parting ways with independent contractors. Through it all, one thing never wavered: my determination to keep moving forward.
Today, I’m proud to stand in the next chapter of this journey. With a brand-new structure launching in Fall 2025, Grand Illusions Hair & Wellness has evolved into more than a salon—it’s a sanctuary where beauty meets wellness, a reflection of resilience, growth, and vision.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve dealt with disgruntled employees, difficult contractors, and moments where I wondered if it was all worth it.
But I kept going. I refused to quit. Every challenge taught me something about leadership, resilience, and my own strength.

Being the owner and creative force behind Grand Illusions Hair & Wellness in El Segundo, a salon and sanctuary I’ve nurtured since 2003. I specialize in precision cuts, custom color, and surf-inspired balayage, blending my decades of experience with a coastal-bohemian approach that feels natural, effortless, and elevated. Over the years, I’ve also expanded into holistic wellness, weaving in scalp rituals, aromatherapy, chakra healing, and sound baths—because beauty isn’t just about how you look, it’s about how you feel.
I’m most proud of creating a space that has stood the test of time—growing through challenges, three remodels, and countless evolutions—while staying true to my vision of building a community-driven, heart-centered salon. What sets me apart is my ability to combine artistry with energy: every service becomes both a beauty treatment and a moment of renewal. After 40+ years in this industry, I’ve learned that the real magic happens when hair, soul, and spirit come together.
How do you think about luck?
I don’t believe luck is everything — I believe it’s about how you respond to it. The setbacks became lessons, and the blessings became fuel. To me, luck is the universe opening a door, but it’s still up to us to walk through it
