Conversations with Trisha Sellers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trisha Sellers

Hi Trisha, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Born in Detroit, Michigan, I have always dreamed of having the freedom to pursue my passions and become whoever I desire. With interests and talents spanning various fields, it has been challenging for me to settle on just one path. Deep down, I knew there was more waiting for me.

After graduating from college, in a field I did not fully resonate with, I felt a sense of incompleteness. I could dance, sing, and draw. I had dreams of traveling and creating art with my life. I realized I could no longer adhere to what others wanted for me; I needed to chase my own aspirations. While I’m not entirely sure how I ended up where I am now, I am grateful for the journey the universe has guided me on. As I work full-time in pharmacy, I’ve refocused on my passion for dance and started taking classes again. I also networked to discover various opportunities that would help cultivate my skills in photography and videography to capture my vision.

Over the summer I joined a dance team, and with my passion, it didn’t take long for someone to recognize my potential. Soon, I landed a part-time summer job as a dance teacher.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been an easy journey. I didn’t grow up in a completely healthy family or an ideal environment. Throughout my journey, I faced immense struggles with my mental health, yet I managed to create something beautiful from the broken pieces of my life. Much of the hard work has been done with minimal financial and emotional support. There are times when I want to give up, but I choose to persevere. My journey has only just begun.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I currently work full-time as a certified pharmacy technician and part-time as a summer dance coach. While I initially planned to become a pharmacist, I quickly recognized the need to change course before it was too late to pivot. On the side, I’ve engaged in freelance modeling and background work to boost my confidence on screen and become comfortable in front of the camera. I’ve had the privilege of networking with many talented and inspiring individuals.

I take great pride in my work ethic and my determination to pursue my passions, no matter how challenging the journey has been. I consider myself intelligent, beautiful, creative, fashionable, and open-minded, which enables me to explore new paths and ideas. As a free thinker, I refuse to let others’ opinions influence me or deter me from my vision. I see myself as a polymath, or a multipotentialite; if I believe I can accomplish something, I know I can.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I enjoy listening to podcasts by Bria Jones and Tam Kaur. They inspire me to be my best self and to put my best foot forward. I also like to explore psychology books and other self-help nonfiction works to gain practical insight on how to maneuver this thing called life. I am always in a state of learning.
Music and dance have also played a significant role in my journey pertaining to my mental health, allowing me to express my feelings in ways that words alone cannot.
