Today we’d like to introduce you to Takyo.
Hi Takyo, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Raymond Flores, but my family has called me Boo my whole life. When I first started creating music, I went by Boo Wheezy before I found my true artistic identity as Takyo. I’m a 28-year-old Puerto Rican and Guamanian music artist whose journey began with dance. I started dancing at the age of three. My sister and I both competed throughout our childhood. Those years on the dance floor taught me discipline, creativity, and how to connect with an audience — lessons that still influence everything I do today.
When I was about 10, my cousin Justin recorded my first song. That moment sparked a dream I didn’t fully realize was possible until then. Without his belief in me, I might never have had the confidence to chase music as a career. Music runs deep in my family: my uncles JBLizz from the West Coast and Tio Jay from the East Coast, both producers, gave me my first recording equipment and helped shape my unique sound. Having roots on both coasts gave me a well-rounded musical perspective, and my uncle Frank Pangelinan, from the group NU Flavor, was a major inspiration in my journey.
As I developed my sound, I’ve had the privilege to work with talented producers and engineers like Double Dee, Iluhvmoolah, Marvel Mayne, and Phouy, who help bring my vision to life in the studio. My music videos are created by Madhouse Films, who help me tell my story visually.
Being in Los Angeles surrounded me with a vibrant creative community that constantly inspires and motivates me. At The Unity Shop, located at 223 West 6th Street Los Angeles. A collaborative space where brands like One World Peace, Unotlikeme, and Getn Str8 Cash come together to create some of the freshest, unique gear. The Unity Shop became family and was key to launching my clothing brand, Threaded Wit Loot.
Today, I’m fully dedicated to my music and fashion. You can check out my brand at ThreadedWitLoot.com, follow me on Instagram @officialtakyo, and find my music on all platforms under the name Takyo. For me, music, dance, and fashion aren’t just passions — they’re all pieces of how I express who I am. And this is only the beginning.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not a smooth road but I think that’s where the real growth happens. The journey has been full of highs and lows, wins and lessons. In the beginning, one of the biggest challenges was simply believing in myself and my vision when there wasn’t a lot of external validation. There were times when it felt like I was putting in so much effort without seeing immediate results, which can really test your patience and confidence.
There were also practical struggles juggling financial responsibilities, learning how to manage time, find myself, and stay creative under pressure. I’ve faced moments of burnout, self-doubt, and rejection, and there were definitely times when quitting felt like the easier option. But I kept going — not because it was easy, but because I knew the purpose behind it mattered.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a music artist dedicated to creating authentic and meaningful music that tells my story and connects with others. Music is my form of self-therapy—a way to express my journey and share my truth with the world. I specialize in crafting songs that capture raw emotion and life experiences, always staying true to myself.
In addition to music, I’m also passionate about fashion and run my own clothing brand. Fashion, like music, is another creative outlet where I can express identity and individuality. My brand reflects that same authenticity and love for storytelling through art and design.
What I’m most proud of is building a creative space where both my music and fashion come together naturally, allowing me to share my story in multiple ways. What sets me apart is that I do this purely for the love of the craft—not for fame or recognition. My art is therapy and connection, and that sincerity is at the heart of everything I create.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happy is being able to create whether it’s through music, fashion, or any form of art. There’s something powerful about turning what I feel inside into something real that others can connect with. Creating gives me peace, keeps me grounded, and reminds me why I started this journey.
I also find happiness in the little things, time with family, good energy, and genuine people who inspire growth. Most importantly, having faith in God gives me strength and joy. That faith guides me through challenges and helps me stay focused on what truly matters.
For me, happiness is about freedom! The freedom to express myself, to live with purpose, and to keep evolving through my art and my faith.
