Conversations with Star Thomas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Star Thomas.

Hi Star, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2016 I WAS ON THE HAMSTER WHEEL FLOATING THROUGH MY DAYS, LACKING ENERGY TO HAVE ANY TYPE OF WORK LIFE BALANCE AND NOT FEELING SEXY IN MY OWN SKIN. QUESTIONING WHY I NO LONGER FELT MY BEST AT 40 YEARS YOUNG. After my Mother was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and full kidney failure that same year, it really woke me up! Every blood related female in my lineage has suffered or lost the battle to the c-word, and I knew I needed to make changes to break those generational chains. I looked outward for self-validation, held myself standards to photoshopped models, my celebrity friends, and developed bad living habits while trying to forget past traumatic life events. I wondered why I had adult acne, no energy to get through my days in corporate America & couldn’t shed the excess tummy bloat/weight I wanted. I suffered from severe headaches, back and neck pain, and relied on toxic coffee drinks and THC to get me through each day. In the evenings, I traded in my toxic coffee for multiple glasses of wine, sugary sweets, and self-medicating myself to sleep each night….I was a hot mess trying to keep it all together! I was a stress ball trying to hide it all from the world. My days were either jacked up or tapped out lying in bed. I got help – I went back to school but this time Nutrition School and learned how to make positive changes in my lifestyle, because Health & Wellness is a lifestyle! Having an accountability coach makes all the difference -I hired TWO! This personal commitment is where true transformation occurs. I fully embraced a plant-based lifestyle to mend my connection with food, restore balance to my gut and hormones, reduce inflammation in my body, and alleviate chronic skin issues. I found a support system – implemented tools to encourage my new habits, positive mindset and techniques to manage those toxic cravings. I made a lot of positive changes, and as a result, a whole new world unfolded before me – I shed 29 lbs. at 45 years+ without killing myself in a gym. I witnessed remarkable changes both internally and externally in my own skin. My energy surged, my mindset shifted, and my body visibly transformed. Through this journey, I cultivated lasting, healthy habits for a balanced life, rid my body of the bloat, pain, and inflammation. And even better I honed the skills to keep it that way. Before finishing my Coaching Certificate from Institute of Integrative Health I successfully coached my Mom to beat that damn c-word, and improve her kidney function so that dialysis is far in her rear-view mirror. Now I’m getting close to 50 and feeling better than I did in my 20’s!!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Smooth road – what’s that?! LOL It definitely had bumps, there were days I didn’t want to do the small positive habits…days I wanted to drink the sugary drinks, not workout, not practice mindfulness and have that glass of wine. But positive habits take time to implement and now that I’ve completely changed my lifestyle I look back and laugh and think WHO was that Woman?

Another challenge is getting Women to believe/trust I know what I’m talking about. It’s also one of the reasons I’m now back in school to obtain my NBC-HWC Board Certification in Health Coaching. I am here to help those that are sick and tired of feeling sick and tired – BUT they have to want to make the changes themselves.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Nutritional Health Coach that helps Women over 40 in that rat race (like I was) take back their health so they can live well and thrive in their businesses, relationships and own skin. I can relate to a lot of them because I was that Woman. I help women through food education and making smarter choices and educating my clients on supplements and why those are critical to our health, especially my hemp supplements. I offer pantry makeovers, detox programs for the busy woman that cannot commit to a 90-day coaching program and targeted VIP sessions for those that can only dedicate a few hours to their health. Bottom line I want to see less women having to turn to pharmaceuticals because our food system is making them sick. I am a brand ambassador for a full spectrum hemp supplement company – Zilis. Which is Swahili for multiplying nutrition. I’m a Corporate Executive Coach with 28 years in the financial industry – working in a man’s world all these years has taught me mental strength to the umpteenth power and I coach women to practice more mindfulness. To make the type of lifestyle changes needed, I focus on the mindset first. I have coached many women to a healthier lifestyle that is easy to implement and maintain.

I am also a Chapter Leader of San Gabriel Valley’s Brunch with Babes – Women’s Networking and Empowerment group. This commUNITY blends personal development, professional growth, and sisterhood, offering women a transformative space to connect, thrive, and lead with authenticity. In the midst of this empowering atmosphere, there’s a palpable sense of belonging—a knowing that no matter where you are on your journey, you’re surrounded by a tribe of fierce, compassionate Babes who’ve got your back. We meet once a month in Glendora, CA and enjoy brunch, unlimited mimosas, coffee and conversations. I bring in Guest Speakers and we have Mastermind sessions + energy healing sessions. My passion is helping Women live well and thrive.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I’m also a philanthropist and I am the Co-Chair of an annual 5K Walk for International Myeloma Foundation 501(c)(3) as my way to Pay it Forward to my Mom’s health journey and find the cure to this horrible disease. This August we were able to give away our first medical research grant (of many to come) to Dr. Bustoros and his Research Team for $80K!! As you can imagine this was a full-circle pay it forward moment for my Mother and I. Walk Name: Walk 4 Myeloma Miracles. Next year we will have two walks; March in Rancho Cucamonga, CA and September in Universal City, CA. We are truly on a mission to find a cure and help those that battle this form of blood cancer.

Other Philanthropic Groups I participate/volunteer for; Vitamin Angels, Mary’s Kitchen Pantry (Orange County), Crime Survivors www.crimesurvivors.org, Orangewood Foundation (Orange County), 1 Existence Foundation (Rancho Cucamonga, CA).
