Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaquan Bivins
Hi Shaquan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My musical journey kicked off in Dallas when I was 18, but it truly took flight around the age of 25. What began as a few small showcase events and open mic nights quickly transformed into something much bigger. With relentless hustle and a passion for my craft, I found myself opening for major acts as they rolled into town. Recently, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to perform in LA with Tha Network, and I’m thrilled to share that my music has even made its way into several films. It’s been an exhilarating ride, and I can’t wait to see where it leads next!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like any creative journey, mine has been filled with highs and lows. From navigating personal and romantic relationships to seizing opportunities—like setting up merch tables and capturing recap content—each experience has shaped my path. I realized that every event and show is a chance to connect with new fans, which prompted me to pivot my approach and elevate everything I do.
While you can’t win them all, giving your best effort is what truly counts. Sometimes, that means rebuilding your team or even rebranding entirely. Embracing these challenges has been key to my growth, and I’m excited to see how they’ll continue to influence my journey!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a songwriter and artist, and what truly sets me apart is my commitment to delivering captivating live performances infused with a deep love for storytelling. Lately, I’ve been channeling my creativity into crafting music that perfectly complements my favorite movie scenes. My goal is for listeners to not just hear my songs, but to visualize every word as if they’re part of a cinematic experience.
In today’s saturated music landscape, where a staggering 150,000 new tracks hit digital streaming platforms daily, it’s essential to know your unique lane. For me, that lane is sync deals—aligning my music with movies, television, and commercials. While it may not be any easier than other paths, my passion for this niche, combined with a focused approach, has streamlined everything from the recording process to song submissions.
When I first started making music, I never envisioned this direction, but now, with five films under my belt, it’s become one of my proudest achievements. It’s amazing how far I’ve come, and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me next!
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Reading is an essential part of my life, and I dive into a wide range of genres, from the philosophical insights of Plato to the strategic wisdom of Robert Greene. There’s so much to gain from exploring different perspectives—it truly broadens my understanding of the world.
Podcasts are another passion of mine, with “My Expert Opinion” topping the list. This show dives deep into the history and current landscape of hip hop culture, offering invaluable insights from a New York perspective. It’s fascinating to see how the East Coast shapes and informs the genre.
I also tune into the Joe Rogan Experience and Cornette’s Drive Thru, which cover such diverse topics. Each of these podcasts sheds light on areas I’m passionate about but don’t necessarily encounter in my daily routine. They keep me inspired and engaged, fueling my creativity and expanding my horizons!
