Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaniel Marsh
Hi Shaniel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
From the vibrant streets of Kingston to the serene beaches of Negril, Jamaica is more
than just an island–it’s a rich tapestry of culture, history, and resilience. Hello! My
name is Shaniel, and I’m a passionate model with a love for creativity and
expression through Caribbean carnival culture. With a background in Spanish Town,
Jamaica at Rondel’s Daycare and Kindergarten , where I first stated modeling and
doing beauty pageants. I strive to bring unique perspectives to every shoot. I thrive
in dynamic environments and enjoy collaborating with photographers, designers,
and stylists to create stunning visuals. My goal is to push boundaries and explore
diverse styles, all while embracing the art of storytelling through every island’s
carnivals as I captivate the hearts of masqueraders in a region. I look forward to
connecting and creating memorable moments together with individuals. Although
modeling isn’t my only goal as a growing makeup enthusiast who develops a
keen interest in cosmetics, exploring various techniques, products, and trends
This journey involves discovering personal style, learning about skin care, and
staying updated on beauty innovations, all while expressing creativity and
individuality through makeup. My overall goal, as an aspiring costume designer as
an individual who is passionate about creating unique carnival costumes. Each costume can represent various themes, cultural traditions, or characters, often
incorporating elements of performance art. One day, I hope my creativity
flourishes as I collaborate with photographers, stylists, and fellow creatives, fostering connections within the industry. Serves as a pivotal moment for building confidence, honing artistic vision, and embracing the unique blend of modeling and creative expression.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Think of it as you as an artist staring at a pristine canvas, but your mind is a swirling
fog of thoughts and ideas that just won’t crystallize. I’ve struggled with creative
block a few times. Most creative people need time to sit around and do nothing. As I
explored these feelings of creative block . I realized most of the time it was the
environment around me. Bad company can create frustration and pressure to
create. I remember going to lots of model casting calls alone, scared and nervous.
Breaking through the fog surrounding myself with like-minded people who lift me up and inspire me. It really took me out of a negative mindset, allowing me to
embrace my social anxiety. I’ve embraced both the struggle and the potential for
breakthrough.
Imagine you are a young adult facing unexpected financial hardship, juggling work,
bills, school, and the pressure to maintain a semblance of normalcy. And all that’s
on your mind is carnival. Deciding between a social outing and saving money. Emotions were very real and high. The
experiences I had as I navigated these challenges. Most people will judge you because they are on the outside looking in. It was a lot of lessons learned during those times and appempting balancing my priorities. Chasing your dreams came with challenges ,obstacles, and roadblocks. We should always embrace the challenges we face, as they are unique experiences that can be transformed into pathways towards success.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a young creative, my platforms and creativity are to make a positive impact, whether that’s through motivation, design, marketing, education, or social entrepreneurship. Reshaping innovation across various fields. Social media platforms serve as both a canvas and a stage. I often prioritize authenticity and social impact, using my talents. Doing YouTube involves much more than just recording and uploading videos; it’s a multifaceted endeavor that combines creativity, strategy, and community engagement. Most importantly, being consistent! Along with becoming an aspiring makeup artist involves honing your skills, building a portfolio, and establishing a personal brand. These are all things that helped me grow my business, myself, and platforms. Especially when I put everything together. Being proud to communicate means valuing the power of words and the connections they create. Effective communication fosters understanding, builds relationships, and bridges gaps between diverse perspectives. When we express ourselves clearly, we not only share our thoughts but also invite others to share theirs, enriching the conversation. That was my downfall because, as a creative, I spent so much time alone. All I want to do is create, create, create! My mind is an open art space. I have so many ideas and creative thoughts on a daily basis that I can’t wait to be able to express myself through my craft.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
When looking for a mentor, you have to be specific at what you want to achieve with a mentor. Whether
it’s career guidance, skill development, or personal growth. knowing exactly what you want to achieve will
help you find the right fit. You can attend events, workshops, and conferences related to your career field. Also, engage in online communities and social media platforms. These are the actions I have taken to gain access to rooms. Think about what you can bring to the relationship and “bring to the table.” Mentorship is often a two-way street. So, consider how you can assist your mentor, whether it’s through your skills, insights, or even just enthusiasm. Building a mentoring relationship takes time. Don’t be discouraged if it doesn’t happen immediately; keep networking and refining your approach. Remember, the right mentor can help guide you, but it’s your commitment and effort that will ultimately drive your growth.
