Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam.
Hi Sam, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born a two hundred pound boy with a mustache in Delaware County PA, right outside of Philadelphia. When I graduated high school, I skipped college and went straight to New York to do comedy and to investigate 9/11. When I was 19, I was added to an Upright Citizens Brigade house team, becoming one of the youngest house performers in the theater’s history (brag). I sharpened my teeth freelance writing for The Onion and Funny or Die as well. After half a decade of digging a bit too deep and getting a little too close to the truth of the 9/11 attacks, fearing for my safety and to double down on my blossoming commercial acting career, I decided to move to Los Angelos. Since then I have been in a dozen national commercials, selling diabetes food to fat kids and such. Meanwhile, my weekly fringe podcast “Wisecracker” that I host with my older brother and comedian friend has yet to take off/gain any momentum but it is good and deserves a mention in my life’s story.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I am extremely lucky for my position in life. In my opinion, challenges are a part of any life worth living. Not to sound like an instagram influencer. I mean, standing up straight sucks. Getting out of bed is usually not fun. But that’s the adventure, baby, that’s what it’s all about. Ride the waves and get a little bit wet along the way. I have no idea what that means. But yeah, I’m a Christian, so I really believe there is a bigger plan for everyone and that obstacles are just the levels/chapters of your life’s story. Whether it’s losing a loved one or getting canned from a job you probably hated, it’s all part of The Ride, and I’m grateful to be on it. To answer the question specifically, my mom died when i was 23 and my back usually hurts.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a funny man. Always have been and, unless things go really wrong, always will be. I’m a character actor, stand-up, improviser, sketch comic, writer, lover, friend, patriot. I’ve built my whole identity off of being funny. It’s actually super healthy. My girlfriend/ex-girlfriend/current girlfriend again, loves it. It doesn’t matter if it’s for a crowd of 200 people, my friends at a bar, or a Ralph’s cashier, I’m trying to make em laugh. And I’m genuinely proud of my ability to do that better than anyone I’ve ever met, even though pride is a Sin.
