Conversations with S. Stephon Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to S. Stephon Brown.

S. Stephon Brown

Hi S. Stephon, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Professional Musing was something I built out of my past experiences, in-depth observations, and a need to find my place in the world. It was collection of decades of random skills brought together under one banner of focus.

I discovered improvisation in high school through a performance club and it clung to my soul like a newborn cub. I’d known that I was meant to work creatively, but had no true guiding star as to what that was. So, I became one of the wandering souls who drifted west to try their hand at storytelling.

After studying Motion Picture/Video at the AAU in San Francisco, I brought a stack of student scripts down the coast to LA to start my dream as a screenwriter. It only took 20 years of struggling for me to realize that was not the journey for me. I stopped my life at the mid-point and reevaluated my approach to everything.

“If I think I am so smart, why aren’t I happy?” That’s the question. that started it all.

I saw myself as a broken genius who was misunderstood by everyone, including me. I then hurled myself into a ocean of self discovery using everything I could think of to try and learn who the real me was. The process I performed for myself became the foundation of Modern Musing & Mental Cartography. Through this work I have self-published a book (The Barstool Theories: A Late-Night, Crossfaded Conversation That May Just Explain All Of Human Behavior) and created an original online training (The “Doc” Brown Classic Musing Adventure). Both of which hope to kickstart the Post Covid Renaissance with the next generation of musing minds.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been heaven & hell all the way. Musing is not something many people understand. So I have had to fight for the legitimacy of my craft and explain my processes while perform the role & advancing the work. Some people are quite resistant to any kind of change. Getting them past their biases can be a struggle. But that is a microcosm of the whole process, so it’s become part of fun.

Helping a “closed” mind bloom with understanding and acceptance is a positive experience unlike any other.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Professional Muse, Mental Cartographer & Jester-in-Training. I own and operate my own amusement company that help clients and develops online Muse Training programs. We specialize in helping people who feel broken and/or trapped in their own lives. We believe there are forces of nature & rules of society that are in conflict within people, and that causes huge amounts of unneeded strife and stress.

We work in a similar world to life coaches and executive behaviorists. But we don’t have just one cookie-cutter answer that other pros use just to sell their recent book. We enjoy a holistic and personalizable approach that allows us to work with all types of people to solve every kind of issue.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My joy comes from helping others discover their joy. I allow people to find their love of life again.

As a child, my mother said that I would have boundless energy and happiness each morning. That joy helped her get through some dark times raising her 4 kids. But then after I started going to elementary school, my joy seeped away. The school system didn’t understand me and my ADD. So it tried to destroy me with over-medication and shame. Neither of which I endorse.

The American Education System stole my Mother’s Joy from her. So, I’m stealing it back.
