Conversations with Ryan Kline

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Kline.

Ryan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started shooting photos back in 2012 just after high school. I mainly shot landscapes but eventually around 2018, I started to dabble with portraits. Now in 2022, I’ve been shooting everything from portraits to commercial products and even weddings. Not only has my skill grown, but I’ve also been featured in so many magazines it’s hard to count!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road was not always smooth. I’ve had to work extra jobs to help pay for new gear and to just keep afloat especially early on. There have also been days where I felt like quitting. I still have tough days from time to time but it’s those smiles and moments I capture that keep me going!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’d have to say I specialize in creative portraits now, though my landscapes tend to grab a lot of attention to. However, landscapes are more of a personal joy rather than a passion. I’m extremely proud of the recognition I’ve gotten from my landscapes, but once I was featured for a portrait, I was ecstatic. My style is definitely a bit more moody than others and I love to use single-key lighting. I’ve studied a lot about cinematic lighting as well and it certainly shows in my work.

What were you like growing up?
I’ve always been an extremely active person. From playing sports to riding dirt bikes I’m always on the move. Nowadays I enjoy backpacking, off-roading in my jeep and fishing. If you had to ask my friends, I really haven’t changed much. I still love playing music and even play in a local band called Bad Cactus. I don’t think I’ll ever stop being creative especially in regard to music. It’s just in my blood.
