Today we’d like to introduce you to Rummer.
Hi Rummer, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I have always been in love with music; it’s in my blood, but I first started rapping with my stepdad in our garage in 6th grade in Salinas, CA. While he would be drinking his beer and smoking his cigarettes, we would be freestyling. We actually have videos on tape of it. Started getting more serious about it with my best friend Tommie in 9th grade. I Moved from Salinas to Calabasas, CA, in 10th grade, and I didn’t do any music at that time. Moved to Palmdale, CA, 11 grade, and got in a group called Guttah Block with a couple homies from school. After high school I was going back and forth from so cal to nor cal. I joined a group called Glok Boyz out of Lancaster, and this when it really got serious. Recording every day, doing shows and photoshoots etc. I got a lot of game from my boy Banc about how to go about stuff in this industry. We were doing our thang had a buzz in our city and LA and the Bay since we had members from those cities also. After some years, people moved, and we kind of started doing our own things. 2019 I linked up with my cousin Kion and he helped me put together my “Stop Playin” project and also the “Misunderstood” Ep. I wanted to quit doing music so many times, but I have great family and friends that tell me keep going your meant for this just gotta be consistent, and that’s how I got to where I am today! Not just believing in myself but other people telling me they believe also. I do music cause I love it; it’s my passion. I’m also doing it for baby girl, to let her know you can be anything you want to be, you can do whatever you wanna do, just commit and don’t let anything or anybody stop you!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
You know life gets in the way of hitting ur goals sometimes. Can’t do a lot of stuff because you need money, so you get a job, but now you’re missing a lot of opportunities because you’re on the clock. That was one of my biggest problems. You gotta sacrifice a lot to do this. I was working an overnight job. I would get off at like 8 am and go straight to Kion’s house to record, be there for hours, then drive another 30 min home to be with my daughter for a little bit, get some sleep, and do it again. There was also times where I just didn’t have any time for music cause life be life’n sometimes, but that is where the inconsistency comes in, and whenever I can get back to it, it’s like I’m starting all over again smh …
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My daughter, being around family and friends, just chain-watching sports, and making music are all I need to make me happy. that’s why I need to get rich so I can put all that in one spot lol oh, and bowling, I love bowling
