Conversations with Nikki Weinraub

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Weinraub. 

Hi Nikki, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started out by randomly buying a candle-making kit during the holidays to gift to friends. That quickly turned into me realizing I really enjoyed making candles. I figured, I love candles and I spend way too much money on them, so why not make my own? I made an Instagram and a website, and it was history from there. 

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Blew was always a (mostly) smooth road, of course, a lot of trial and error, up until Covid started. It took off so much faster than I thought it would and the support I was shown was amazing. In the beginning of Covid, I was actually the busiest I had ever been. You’re stuck at home, why not surround yourself with good-smelling candles?!? Then, in the last year or so, the price of supplies skyrocketed. Many small businesses have been affected by this and it’s such a bummer. Soy wax has tripled in price, making it hard for me to make much of a profit off of my products and I refuse to make my candles unaffordable for people. I’m hoping things will calm down eventually. 

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m actually a full-time hair stylist, and a part-time candle maker. I’ve been doing hair for about 11 years now. Candles came second, but they’re my favorite! I specialize in making soy wax, eco-friendly, clean fragrance candles. I’m most proud of my candles being 100% pet, baby, anything, and everything friendly. There’s nothing harmful in my candles. Oh, did I mention they burn to the very bottom of the jar? Long story short, my candles are no BS! 

What do you think about happiness?
Surrounding myself with the people I love makes me the most happy. One of my favorite quotes is from Christopher McCandless, “happiness is only real when shared”. To me, life is meaningless without the love and support from my people. It also makes me happy to see them happy. I’m very lucky to have a supportive circle of family and friends.
