Conversations with Nicole Robbins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Robbins.

Hi Nicole , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have been lucky to be featured by Voyage for my tennis business, owner and Head Coach of Nikki’s Tennis Crew. I am blessed to have a second career that is just blossoming as a Minister for Centers for Spiritual Living in Granada Hills. As a tennis coach, I have interacted with people who have experienced a wide range of challenges and joys. My master’s in psychology focusing on Spiritual Psychology with an emphasis on Consciousness, Health and Healing has led to many amazing conversations on the tennis court. My fascination of the human mind and experiences, led me to Granada Hills Centers For Spiritual Living where I started taking classes. The next thing I knew, I was in ministerial school. I graduated in 2020 right in the middle of the pandemic with a second masters in Consciousness Studies and Spiritual Leadership. I was hired as Staff Minister for my center in Granada Hills where I teach classes, do spiritual counseling, give sermons and do rituals such as weddings and house blessings. I have created a YouTube Channel and website Spiritual Coach Nicole where people are able to check out my creative thought talks and my sermons.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was not on my radar to become a minister. I just kept taking classes and next thing I knew, I was in ministerial school at Holmes Institute.  I was wondering how I was going to pay for my master’s. I learned that when you are on the right road, doors  open and opportunities present themselves and I was able to pay for my degree with grace and ease. The hardest part of this journey was becoming a licensed minister during the pandemic where our church was online only. Our Spiritual Director, Rev Dr. Michael McMorrow did a really amazing job keeping our center afloat. We stream our services on YouTube and still do zoom fellowship to kept our community bonded.  We are finally getting people back into our physical building. We just had a super fun fall event in which our center was filled. It was so amazing to have so many people back in our sanctuary.  I am starting a group in the New Year that meets Tuesday mornings so people can come together to support, share, and celebrate life’s challenges and wins. This group will be a book study as well as a place to create community. I am looking forward to our center adding many other fun activities and classes for both adults and our junior church.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I love the teachings of our founder Ernest Holmes. Center’s For Spiritual Living is part of the New Thought tradition. It is a Christian denomination church which part of the teaching focuses on how our thoughts create our reality. We are spiritual beings having a human experience living in a spiritual universe so we can literally change our universe. Sometimes we get stuck in our human condition and can’t see beyond the challenges. This is when our teachings come into play. Ernest Holmes studied many of the great traditions and philosophies and brought the best of each together to create our beautiful philosophy. I love when I am having a conversation with someone and something I might say causes an AHA moment in their life that helps heal a situation. I speak at centers besides my own and it is always a joy giving a sermon in a new community. We have centers all over the world and several here in the San Fernando Valley. I love sharing our philosophical wisdom and making a difference in someone’s life. I do it on the tennis court and now in churches. I never set out to be a minister but it just seemed to be so compatible with who I am as a person and I love it. I love coaching tennis. I love teaching CSL classes and speaking about our philosophy. It is all about making connections with people and listening to them. I have a zoom class right now on Monday evenings studying Ernest Holmes philosophy as well as Emerson, Hopkins and Troward. We stand on the shoulders of brilliant people. I am looking forward in 2023 getting people back together in person to attend our classes. I am planning on kicking off the new year with a four day workshop called “Healthy, Wealthy, Happy, Joy Filled 2023” This workshop will be about setting ourselves up for an amazing 2023 in all areas of our lives.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Oh, there are so many books I am not sure where to start. My bookshelf is filled with tons of books I adore. Any book by Ernest Holmes, Joel Goldsmith, Neville Goddard, William Hornaday, Emmet Fox, Eric Butterworth, Pema Chodron, Richard Rohr, Brene Brown and Caroline Myss. I could probably name another 100 authors but that is a good start.
