Conversations with Mili June

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mili June

Hi Mili, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
As a child, I was always fascinated by stories. I loved making up stories and acting them out with my friends or siblings. It was my favorite thing to do. It was kind of the highlight of my day. We’d pretend to be different people, living different lives. Sometimes rich, sometimes poor, sometimes young, sometimes old, or even living in castles or escaping danger. It felt magical, as if I could experience many different lives, not just my own.

I grew up in a small village in Switzerland, surrounded by fields and forests, which provided the perfect setting for a happy and imaginative childhood. We’d spend hours in the woods, inventing new adventures. As I grew older, I discovered theater, and something just clicked. I realized how amazing it was to share stories with others and take them on a journey to different worlds.

It didn’t take long for me to realize I wanted to be an actress. However, my parents didn’t fully support this dream. They encouraged me to pursue a “safe” career that would provide stability. So, I decided to study education and become a teacher. While I loved teaching, the dream of acting never left me.

A pivotal moment for me came when I watched the movie “Love, Rosie” while in college. The film inspired me and reminded me of the promise I made to myself as a child: to one day be on the big screen and share stories. While pursuing my teaching career, I applied for theater productions and film projects. I was able to gain experience on film sets and even work at an opera house. I worked hard, saved money, and kept my dream alive.

In the summer of 2023, I made the decision to apply to acting schools. I was overjoyed when I was accepted into the Stella Adler Art of Acting School in Los Angeles with a scholarship. To be honest, I didn’t tell anyone about it. I just applied and went through the callbacks on my own, keeping it to myself until I knew it was real.

Now, as I study acting in Los Angeles it’s incredible to look back and realize how in the end every little thing ends up together and brings you to places you couldn’t even have imagined.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Pursuing acting comes with constant challenges, rejection, and uncertainty. One of the biggest struggles was finding the courage to follow my passion in the first place. Growing up, acting didn’t seem like an option. I was encouraged to choose a stable career, so I studied education and became a teacher. While I loved working with children, a part of me wanted to fully commit to acting. Taking the leap to leave that safe path behind and fully commit to acting was terrifying.

Moving to Los Angeles was another challenge. Leaving behind my family and friends, my home, and financial stability to chase a dream in a highly competitive industry wasn’t easy. There have been moments of doubt, moments where rejection felt personal, and times when I questioned if I was good enough. As an actor, you constantly put yourself out there, only to be told “no” more times than you can count. Learning not to take that rejection personally was an important lesson.

But through all the struggles, I’ve learned that perseverance is key. The hard times don’t last forever, and every setback has taught me something valuable. What keeps me going is the love I have for storytelling, the belief that I have something to share, and the people who support me and who always remind me why I started in the first place.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
For me, acting is about bringing truth to the screen and stage, creating something that resonates with people on a deep level. I love diving into complex characters, understanding their emotions, and making them feel real.

I think what could set me apart is the many perspectives I’ve experienced in this world. I’ve been a teacher, guiding and learning from children. I founded an aid project for a school in Peru. I’ve struggled with health issues that shaped my resilience. I’ve traveled extensively since childhood, immersing myself in different cultures. I grew up in a small village surrounded by fields and forests but later lived in a big city. I worked as a nanny in France, performed as an actress, and even worked in an opera house.

Through my journeys to places like Peru, Australia, Cuba, Costa Rica, North America, and all over Europe, I’ve met incredible people, seen different ways of life, and experienced the beauty of human connection. Traveling has taught me resilience, open-mindedness, and the importance of seeing the world through many perspectives.
All of these experiences have given me a unique lens through which I see the world. I think the ability to see life from so many angles is what makes storytelling real and impactful.

Hmm…I think one of the things I’m most proud of is having the courage to follow my dream despite the obstacles. I grew up in an environment where acting wasn’t really supported. People often saw it as too uncertain, too unrealistic. No one truly understood why I wanted this so badly. Haha, sometimes I didn’t even know myself. But a part of me just knew this is what makes me feel alive. So, I’m proud that I never gave up, that I left behind financial stability even though it was pretty scary.

The most rewarding moments are definitely when people tell me that my work has inspired them. That, to me, is the power of storytelling, and it’s what keeps me pushing forward.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I believe the most important quality for my success is perseverance. Acting is a tough path, and there are times when it feels impossible, but I keep going. I’ve learned that if you truly love something, you have to fight for it, even when it’s hard, even when no one else believes in it.
