Conversations with Miguel Angel Delgado

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miguel Angel Delgado.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was Born November 10th 1981.
Born & raised in the San Fernando Valley. (Mission Hills, Holy Cross Hospital) I am half Mexican & Half Salvadorian. I come from a broken home, yet parents that loved me a lot.
from humble beginnings…
From the Barrio (the hood, the ghetto) of Pacoima, then later moved to North Hollywood, CA.
As I got older I moved around The Valley & LA.
Based on my environment, the lifestyle I was living, the ppl I hung out with and the decisions I made… I should be dead or in prison. But thanks To GOD & my parents’ prayers over my life & the changes I made, that is not the case. 😎 life however, sure taught me the hard way. But I learned from my mistakes.

I always knew I was destined for more… and in that search I’ve done many different jobs, from being a Salesman, Custom Iron Furniture fabricator, Construction worker, Car Detailer, Pest Control Technician, I became a state certified substance abuse counselor & youth advocate in 2008 – 2010
That career however didn’t pan out.

I am also a musician… I play guitar both acoustic & electric, Bass guitar and I Sing. I Played at different clubs/venues and even Churches. But where I will never forget playing and singing at is, in Youth correctional facilities and prisons.. To take the good vibes & THE GOOD MESSAGE to the inmates. That was with one of my younger brothers and a friend of ours that had that good message Band.

I came from that world and I made it out… so it was a must that I gave back my time and Talent.
I love to help and please people. I am a passionate creative…
All that happened before 2010.

That year in 2010 I started a business and another soon after, they made me money but they failed. But I am a determined and stubborn man. I went back to what I am really good at and that is; sales.
I started working in various sales position jobs and when my wife got pregnant in 2014, I started working 2 full time jobs. A Commission Based job (sales) and a warehouse job building furniture. My wife was on her 2nd trimester when I got hurt at that warehouse job.
Again, life was challenging my resilience. When I got better I was working at a hospital. ( I hated that job) Lol.

The week that my son was born… I asked GOD for the opportunity to provide a better life for them and myself. Oh man… Be Careful what you ask/wish for!.
THIS WAS WHEN MY JOURNEY TO HAVING MY OWN CONSTRUCTION COMPANY BEGAN. 😮‍💨😮‍💨

I landed a gig at a Contractor Licensing School. Where I started as a school director and then an Instructor teaching Law & Business to tradesmen studying for the state exams in order to get their Contractor’s License and learn to operate a Contractor’s Business.

I Became good friends with the owner of that school who had started a construction company. I became a Home Improvement Salesperson for that construction company.

And so there we were, with a couple of good friends, learning together to build a construction company.

2020 Covid hits! The world was on edge, filled with uncertainty in our industry. The opposite of what we thought was going to happen, occurred… we were overwhelmed with the amount of work/projects we had throughout Covid. So many kitchens and so many bathrooms were remodeled.

Yet, after all that fun & success… The feeling of outgrowing that company was undeniable. BECAUSE of that prayer I did in 2015 on that week that my son was born.

I opened my very own Construction Company and teamed up with a business partner who’s an amazing General Contractor of 28 years. A good and solid friend His name is Israel Tejeda.

ROOTS BUILDERS & REMODEL, Inc. was founded in February of 2022.
So many projects we have done, the connections we have built with our clients is amazing.
But there is a few projects that have and will be the most meaningful For Us. One of which was to remodel a kitchen at a missionary church. ⛪️ that dedicates themselves to feeding the homeless of South Central, Los Angeles. The City Shut them down until they had their kitchen in compliance to a new city coded Commercial Kitchen. We were able to completely remodel their kitchen and help them get back to their mission.

We are currently in the process of being a part of the REBUILT OF ALTADENA. We have a couple of clients whom we are going to rebuild their homes that were lost in the Eaton Canyon Wildfire.

And last, but not least, we are starting an initiative to helping members/community of an Indian tribe at a reservation… to have electricity and running water along with septic tanks.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Uhm, Building a business from the ground up is never a smooth road.
But, Building A General Construction Company from the ground up is even more challenging.
The challenge of finding good detail oriented workers & sub-contractors is still a challenge today.
So Israel and I have to always be on our Toes to make sure nothing is missed, so than everything is done with the upmost Quality Of Craftsmanship.
To having to wear all the hats needed to complete a project, to making sure the calendar is booked with upcoming projects.

Making sure we keep the clients happy and to make sure the crews are happy… because if the workers/crews are happy the job gets done right.
At the moment we are opening the doors for Home Improvement Salespeople/Project Managers to help expand the Brand and company. And that is going to be an exciting and fun challenge.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
So we are ROOTS BUILDERS & REMODEL, Inc.
A General Construction Company…. We Do New Construction & Renovations/Remodeling for Residential & Commercial Properties.

We really are a one stop shop… We can build a house from the ground up, we do complete interior remodeling.
We love remodeling kitchens & Bathrooms, Building ADU’s. And we also specialize in building and remodeling swimming pools with Grottos, Concrete Work, Roofs etc…

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
“Those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind”

To make every moment count… The Highs & Lows.

I have a couple of mantras I live by.

1) When life is good, Give GOD thanx & praises. When it’s not, find the beauty in the chaos! -Miggz. Los Angeles, CA. Native. (Trademark) LOL. 😁

2) Discipline will take you further than motivation ever will.
