Today we’d like to introduce you to Mecca Hunter.
Hi Mecca, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Growing up in Los Angeles all my life, I’ve had a strong fascination with the visual arts. Since being introduced to the concept at age of four, I’ve been subjected to learning the fundamentals of art, to drawing from observation and museums, to showcasing my works at shows and galleries. While going through most of my life being self-taught, I’ve faced much trial and error, but by surpassing myself and studying from the great works of artists like Basquiat and Virgil Abloh, it became much easier to get past the fears of new challenges.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The road to becoming who I am today came with plenty of cracks, dips and bumps. The struggles I mainly faced was: learning how to prepare for each project (no matter the medium), connecting with others through my art, but most importantly, it was me trying to figure out my identity and how I wanted to present myself and work to the art world. With those struggles came life lessons and experiences that I’ve failed to comprehend over and over again until I’d finally get tired of fighting myself. From there, I began to learn gratitude and value each lesson I learned from my mistakes. I had to take myself backwards into the mindset of a curious child wanting to learn EVERYTHING and have a genuine connection with everyone and everything around me. Trust me, it helps when making the art.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in creative consulting/direction, graphic illustration and traditional painting. What I’m most proud of is my ability to help build brands and businesses from the ground up starting out with strong visual presentation. With that requires time in myself consulting with my clients to understand their vision, walk them through their brand development process as well as getting to know them on a personal level when discussing their core values. I strive to accomplish these tasks for my clients unlike other businesses we see nowadays that could care less about uplifting your vision.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is seeing my community win. I don’t think it’s fair to leave hard-working people that used to surround you behind you once you begin reaching a level of success. It hurts me to see how many people leave their homes out of stardom and never return to give back to the foundation that helped build them.
