Conversations with Mary Le

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Le.

Hi Mary, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in a small city in Southern California as the first generation of my family to be born in America so there was a lot of pressure growing up. My family engraved a certain mindset in me that definitely did not include the beauty industry but I always ended up being interested in things like makeup, hair, and fashion either way. After years of working in the corporate world, I finally decided to take a chance on myself and start my career as a hair and makeup artist.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Oh, of course not! Growing up in a stereotypical Asian family was difficult, especially when it came to their acceptance of my career choice. It took years for me to finally take that risk in pursuing my passion. I definitely would not have been able to make that jump without the support of my wonderful husband. Honestly, as long as you have a passion for what you do and a great work ethic, you will succeed. It took me a long time to realize that but that mindset got me to where I am today!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Something I am really grateful for is the opportunity to work with different clients as I highly value diversity in the workplace. I grew up during a time when there was very low Asian representation in American media so it was difficult to navigate what “beauty” really meant to me and my clients. With the experience I gained from working with an amazing team, I have learned what beauty means to different people from different cultures. I specialize in bridal hair and makeup and I am so blessed to have had the opportunity to work with a diverse group of people.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Easy, FAMILY. Without the love and support of my family, I wouldn’t have had the courage to do what I love.
