Conversations with Maria Mccarthy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Mccarthy

Hi Maria, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Growing up… my grandfather sparked my love of photography.
At that time he used a “Brownie” camera and photographed Kodachrome slides. He knew the importance of capturing family celebrations & traditions. To this day one of my favorite photographs is a picture of my grandmother holding me in a fancy dress at age 2.

Today, I enjoy every moment spent behind the camera. Every time I look through the lens gives me the opportunity to document and preserve love and happiness
for future generations.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the biggest challenges has been switching gears from being the “creative artist” to running my business.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in Bar/Bat Mitzvah and special event photography.

I take fun candids. I also take posed photographs. They, more than anything, will be tomorrow’s family heirlooms. You can’t skimp here. I photograph once in a lifetime events my clients want priceless memories. I understand the importance of family and friends, spontaneity, & people celebrating life.

I pride myself on always being able to relax my clients, thus allowing me to always get the “perfect” expressions and shots.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I respond to client calls/emails usually same day. I’m always on time. I respect my clients needs and wants. I respect the rules of the venues I’m working in. I respect other vendors and like to work as a team for the good of the client.
