Conversations with Marcos De La Cruz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcos De La Cruz.

Hi Marcos, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m a drummer and I’ve played in dozens of bands in Orange County and LA.

I opened Firefly Music Studio in 2011 and started out recording drum tracks for artists in England.

Since then I’ve recorded with Billy Sheehan (David Lee Roth, Mr. Big), Roger Joseph Manning, Jr., (Jellyfish, Beck, Jay Z, Johnny Cash), Eric Dover (Jellyfish, Alice Cooper, Slash’s Snakepit), Jeffrey Foskett (Beach Boys, Brian Wilson) and many others.

Most recently my band, Ted Z and the Wranglers recorded and released our full-length album “Kerosene” on vinyl and streaming platforms. I’m very proud of this record.

Since 2012 I’ve recorded 3 critically acclaimed albums with FARRINGTON. Another is on the way. Another labor of love.

Firefly has also recorded voiceover sessions for the Ad Council, US Bank, I Heart Radio, Total Fitness and Combate Americas.

The Discovery Channel and ROKU TV have filmed episodes at Firefly. They were looking for somewhere that was quiet, clean and comfortable.

I was happy to accommodate and ROKU TV even gave me my acting debut! Fun!

In addition to tracking and mixing, I offer suggestions on arrangements, dynamics and harmonies.

I will soon have a client who wants to learn about recording and production.

Firefly also offers rehearsal space for solo artists and bands at competitive rates.

Looking forward to my next project!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The only struggle I can recall was waiting for the city to approve construction plans.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m most proud of the recordings by my band, Ted Z and the Wranglers and Long Beach singer/songwriter/guitarist/pianist FARRINGTON.

I’m most comfortable recording and mixing Rock but I’ve also done Rap/Hip Hop, Country, Pop and Folk.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success as follows :

Doing what you enjoy for a living and doing work you’re proud of.
