Today we’d like to introduce you to Lovpune.
Hi Lovpune, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my artist project back in 2019. I was writing and producing in Texas where I was living at the time. I was really inspired by human transformation. I wrote a lot about the healing and knew-ness i was going through. I ended up moving to New York City and was so inspired. I had always been into electronic music but that’s when my music started shifting into a more ethereal electronic sound. I was going out and attending a lot of house & techno parties at the time. Exploring my sexuality and gender in a way I could have never imagined when living in Texas. I eventually moved to Los Angeles for more inspiration and have been writing and producing with a lot of talented and kind people out here. I’ve released a whole EP expressing my time in NYC. My exploration through queer identity and religious trauma. I’m trying to tap into the DIY scene here in LA. I’ve been throwing various house parties and DIY events on the east side. I perform at these events with my artist project ‘Lovpune’ and that’s sort of been my focus lately. Performing live is one of my favorite things to do and I think now more than ever it’s important to keep live music alive and accessible for all. When i was 15 I went to my first music festival in Austin called Austin city Limits. Year 2013. The lineup was incredible. Vampire Weekend, Arctic Monkeys, The Cure, Passion Pit, Phoenix Tame Impala and sooo many other amazing artists. The insane buzz I felt in my soul when watching everyone perform. I remember that day like it was yesterday. I told myself this was 1000% what i wanted to do when I grew up and I’ve been chasing it ever since.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I mean the most obvious struggle is money. The world really doesn’t make it easy to be an artist of any form especially those living in big cities like Los Angeles. It’s so expensive to live let alone fund a whole music project by yourself. I don’t really have help from anyone. Not a label, not my parents. Its all self funded. It’s been a real struggle trying to figure out how to fund everything. It’s sad to think how much better I might sound or how much cooler my visuals could be if I just had bigger budgets. I try not to focus on the negative but that definitely is one of the biggest things holding me back right now.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m most proud of my song writing and melodies. I love a catchy f*ck*ng hook. I feel like thats what I specialize in. Structuring out a song. My favorite thing to do is produce out a track from scratch, add the structure – lyrics, chords, melodies & concept and then collaborate with other producers to hone in on the vision and sound. I work a lot with my friends Nicci Gomez and Surback. They are some of the best producers I’ve ever met and we all work together so beautifully. I feel like I’ve mastered that process of collaboration and writing. Something I definitely couldn’t have said a couple years ago.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something people might not know about me is growing up I was super religious – like purity ring, bible thumping, going to church 3 times a week of my own volition! I write about it in my song “Never Knew” It’s about me realizing my queer identity, leaving the church, and having to come out to my mother. That song is very close to my heart because it was something so real and hard that I had to go through. Definitely check it out if you haven’t heard it. It’s a very beautiful song.
