Conversations with LondonAnthony

Today we’d like to introduce you to LondonAnthony

Hi LondonAnthony, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
From my earliest memories, music has been a constant presence in my life. My aunt’s singing group rehearsed at my grandparents’ house regularly, and I was captivated by the magic of their harmonies. I began singing in church and quickly discovered my passion for music. In my early teens, my cousin and I started writing our own songs with a dream of becoming the next Bebe and Cece Winans. Our hard work paid off when people began to take notice of my talent, and I was soon being asked to sing backup and book studio sessions.

After singing background for several gospel greats like Dorinda Clark Cole, Donnie McClurkin, and Kim Burrell, I got a chance to do another background gig for a gospel artist. During this gig, I met Chris Bolton, who mentored me and taught me that there’s more to music than just singing in church. With his help, I began working with major pop stars like Toni Braxton, Kelly Clarkson, Mint Condition, Ronald Isley, and many others.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve had some incredible highs and some devastating lows. After collaborating with numerous talented artists, I felt it was time for me to explore my own creative potential. Subsequently, I was offered my first record deal, but unfortunately, I was eventually dropped. I continued to pursue my passion and signed another deal, but again, it didn’t work out. These consecutive disappointments led me to experience a sense of fear that I had never felt before. Consequently, I began to shrink myself and focus on helping other artists achieve their dreams instead of pursuing my own. However, after eight years of supporting others, I finally mustered the courage to try again. And today, I am proud to say that I have made significant progress in my artistic endeavors.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a songwriter, and I think that’s what I’m most proud of. I have the ability to take real-life experiences and turn them into music. When I write my songs, I try to match my vocal approach to the subject of the song. I leave some room in my music for the listener to experience the emotions that I am feeling. Most of my songs focus on sadness or heartbreak because that’s what I need to express. My first single, “Pills,” was about my stay in a mental hospital and how medication helped me find some peace. My song “Out on a Limb” is based on a real-life situation I experienced.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I listen to artist such as John Mayer, Brandy and Frank Ocean just to name a few.
