Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Foster.
Hi Laura, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
For the past 22 years, I’ve built my career in the salon industry while also working on editorial projects and the entertainment industry. Over that time I’ve observed a lot, what works in the salon industry and what doesn’t. I always knew I wanted to create more than just a workplace. I wanted to build a community where stylists feel valued and supported, and where clients feel truly at home.
Two years ago, I broke my ankle and couldn’t walk for three months. That time forced me to slow down and really reflect on what I wanted next in life. I realized I didn’t want to go back to the way things were. I wanted to create something bigger, something that could bring people together. That’s when I decided to build Vici Salon, a business that aligned with my vision: a salon that’s not just about hair, but about connection, and love.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We opened our first salon in February 2025, and it truly exceeded anything I could have dreamed of. Within just four months, Vici Salon was completely full, and the response from the stylist community was overwhelming. We had so many incredible stylists reaching out who wanted to be part of what we were building. That level of demand made it clear expansion wasn’t just an option, it was a necessity, and Newport was the natural place to grow. By August, we opened our second location, and it’s been nothing short of incredible. Every stylist on our team is not only highly talented, but also genuinely caring and aligned with the culture we’re creating. Running two salons has brought new challenges and learning curves, but I approach it day by day, making thoughtful decisions that keep our people and clients at the center of everything we do.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At Vici Salon, we create beautiful, customized hair, but what really sets us apart is the culture. We’ve built a community where stylists feel valued and clients feel at home. What I’m most proud of as an owner is seeing both our team and our clients thrive in that environment.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that success in this industry isn’t just about talent or hard work, it’s about people. Building a salon means building a community, and the way you treat your team and your clients matters more than anything else. I’ve learned to lead with patience, flexibility, and love, and that when you create an environment where people feel valued and supported, everything else naturally follows.
