Conversations with Joan Wozniak

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joan Wozniak.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I used to work in the Chemical Engineering Laboratory in Rome and as a fashion model. After that, I traveled a lot and enjoyed beautiful places around the world. When the pandemic started, I started my fashion Instagram. I love to present different styles and beautiful clothes, but I also love to design and sew my own dresses. I live in Santa Monica, so I have wonderful photo spots around me.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We all know that difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations. I’m a busy mom, so it is not easy to find time for my passion for fashion. My family is not very happy that I dedicate a lot of time and effort to my Instagram, designing, and sewing. I’m still learning, and not everything comes out perfect the first time.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I used to work as a fashion model in Italy. During this time, I learned a lot about styling, designing, and photography. I was wearing beautiful clothes and admiring the art of fashion. My dresses are handmade by me. I love beautiful textiles, and it takes me a lot of time to find the right fabric for my creations. All my dresses are unique and made with silk and cotton. I love natural fabrics and styles that will last and not end up in landfills after one season. Other than being a designer, I like to share my styling ideas and create content for fashion and beauty brands.

How do you think about luck?
The role of luck in life and business is far greater than we realize. My grandma was always telling me that you have to be in the right place at the right time. I was lucky to work in the fashion industry and gain confidence and courage. You need a lot of courage and confidence to do something different than others.
