Today we’d like to introduce you to Jillian Lapedus.
Hi Jillian, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
The Guru Experience was born from my lifelong passion for creating moments that bring people together in meaningful ways. I’ve always been drawn to the art of hospitality — the feeling of walking into a space and instantly knowing you’re cared for. I wanted to translate that into something deeper: retreats and events that are not only beautiful and elevated, but also nourishing for the soul.
With The Guru Experience, I design immersive retreats and events that blend mindfulness, movement, and intentional connection. Each one is carefully curated to feel effortless yet transformative — a place where guests can slow down, rediscover themselves, and feel part of a vibrant, inspired community.
What makes these experiences unique is the attention to detail: the ambiance, the flow of energy, and the subtle touches that leave a lasting imprint. For me, true luxury is about how something makes you feel long after it’s over — seen, renewed, and inspired. That’s the heart of The Guru Experience.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, but every challenge has carried a lesson. My 13 years at Equinox were like a masterclass in handling the unexpected — leading global events meant juggling high-pressure timelines, last-minute pivots, and the kind of curveballs that test your creativity in real time. I’ll never forget one launch event where a major detail fell through just hours before doors opened. In that moment, I had to think fast, trust my team, and reimagine the flow on the spot. The event not only came together, but the guests never knew anything had shifted. That experience cemented my belief that resilience and presence are just as important as planning.
When I launched The Guru Experience, the challenges felt more personal. I was no longer backed by a global brand — it was just me, my vision, and a deep belief in what I wanted to create. At one of my earliest retreats, unexpected weather forced us to completely shift the programming. Instead of the outdoor flow we had planned, I transformed the indoor space into an intimate sanctuary with candlelight, music, and grounding practices. What could have been a setback actually became the most talked-about moment of the weekend — guests still tell me how magical and unforgettable it felt.
Those moments — both at Equinox and in building The Guru Experience — taught me that challenges are often where the magic begins. They pushed me to sharpen my creativity, lean into community, and remember that perfection isn’t the goal. For me, true success is creating spaces where people feel cared for, connected, and inspired long after the experience ends.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in creating luxury retreats and events that feel both elevated and deeply personal. Through The Guru Experience, and now in collaboration with Tallu, I’m bringing wellness and lifestyle experiences to life across North America — including at Costa Palmas in Cabo, a destination that embodies the elegance and intention at the heart of my work.
What sets me apart is my genuine love for people and the belief that true luxury lies in how an experience makes you feel. I care about every detail — the flow of energy in a space, the way the ambiance invites presence, and the subtle touches that make someone feel seen and cared for. Those small, intentional moments are what transform an event from simply beautiful into something unforgettable.
I’m most proud when guests walk away not just refreshed, but with a sense of renewal — a clarity, connection, or spark they’ll carry back into their lives. That lasting imprint is what defines The Guru Experience: luxury, intention, and heart woven seamlessly together.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Most people know me for designing elevated, curated experiences — but what often surprises them is how much of my work is rooted in subtle details and lived experience. My love for hospitality started young, when I was thrown into a big role at Sotto Sotto, one of Toronto’s most iconic restaurants, right out of college. It was true luxury hospitality, and it became an immersive education in how to create exceptional service and unforgettable moments. That early foundation still shapes how I approach every retreat and event today.
Health and wellness are a central part of my life and my family’s life, and they naturally inform the experiences I create. I love exploring new practices, whether it’s a fitness trend, mindful ritual, or wellness innovation, and weaving the ones that resonate into my retreats and events. It’s that balance of curiosity, care, and attention to detail that makes The Guru Experience feel both luxurious and deeply personal — a space where every element is intentional, and every guest feels truly seen.
