Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Sonnenthal.
Hi Jessica, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Art walked into my life by chance when I was 12 years old. I don’t think I was necessarily talented off the bat, but I developed a skill over the years, and I developed a love for art almost immediately. I won an art class through a raffle ticket and that’s where my journey began.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Art was never a smooth road, but I don’t think it’s suppose to be. I’ve created my best work when I’ve been sad, angry, or just highly emotional. There have been years when I couldn’t let another day go by without going to the studio to paint and there have been years when I have walked away from art entirely…but I always come back.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I paint oil on canvas and my works consist of places I’ve been or moments that have inspired me. My work is primarily photorealistic, but I am now trying some new things with a more contemporary feel to my pieces. I will be showcasing these new works hopefully by next year.
What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I have learned to stop being so hard on myself! Art is a creative journey that should be enjoyed. There will always be challenging moments, but they are there to teach us and to help us grow and be better.
