Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Jahanbigloo.
Jennifer, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my career in the late ’90s knowing exactly what I wanted to do — I wanted to be a hair color specialist. I was lucky enough to begin my journey as an assistant and right hand to Louis Licari, who at the time was the most well-known hair colorist in the country. Working for Louis was like getting a masterclass in every aspect of the business — from learning the technical side of color to understanding how to work with high-profile clients and navigate the world of film and television.
That’s where I learned the importance of continuity for camera and the precision it takes to make hair look flawless under any light. My very first celebrity client was Cate Blanchett, and from there, everything took off. I quickly began working with Julia Roberts, Al Pacino, Kate Beckinsale, Ashley Judd, Mariah Carey, and so many other incredible talents. Over the years I’ve colored hair for countless actresses, performers, and musicians for films, red carpets, and magazine covers — truly too many to count — and each one has been its own creative adventure.
Some of my favorite memories come from my time on set, especially working on the last two installments of Breaking Dawn from the Twilight Saga. It was such a fun and surreal experience — long hours, beautiful locations, and an amazing team — and it reminded me why I fell in love with on-set work in the first place: it’s storytelling through color.
Another project that was really special to me was doing January Jones’s color for the entire run of Mad Men. That show defined an era — not just in television, but in style — and being part of creating that signature 1960s blonde that became so iconic was truly a career highlight.
Early on, I had two big goals: to become a go-to color specialist for the film industry and to represent a professional hair color brand as a spokesperson. Both came true. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of partnering with some of the world’s leading brands — L’Oréal, Matrix, Logics, Clairol, and Wella Professionals — sharing my passion for color and teaching other stylists how to translate artistry into reality.
In 2000, my husband at the time, his sister, and I took over Juan Juan Salon in Beverly Hills, which became an incredible turning point in my career. The salon took off so quickly that just five years later we opened a second location in Brentwood. Those years taught me so much about the business side of beauty — how to build a team, create a brand, and cultivate an experience that keeps clients coming back.
Looking back, I’ve been fortunate to live out the dreams I had when I first started. I’ve worked on too many movies to count, built lasting relationships in the industry, and continued to evolve with it — because at the end of the day, great color is about transformation, confidence, and connection.
Now, I’m working on my next chapter — developing a new hair care brand that feels like the natural evolution of everything I’ve done so far. It’s the kind of project that brings together my experience in film, salon, and education, and it feels like the perfect next step in my career.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road — and honestly, I don’t think it ever is when you’re building something real. In this industry, especially as a colorist working in both film and celebrity, there’s constant pressure to be perfect — to deliver consistency under crazy schedules, different lighting, travel, personalities, and expectations. Early on, I had to learn how to stay calm under pressure and trust my instincts, even when everything around me was moving fast.
When I took over the salon in Beverly Hills, that was another huge learning curve. I went from being purely creative to running a business — managing a team, building a brand, and learning how to balance the demands of leadership with my own artistry. It wasn’t easy, but it taught me how to think like both an artist and an entrepreneur.
There were also moments of burnout and self-doubt — times when I was working nonstop on set or juggling too many things at once. But every challenge made me sharper and stronger. I’ve learned that success isn’t about having a smooth path; it’s about being adaptable, staying passionate, and knowing that the work you do has meaning.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m best known for my work as a hair color specialist, especially when it comes to blondes and major color transformations. I love creating those big, defining color moments — the kind that completely change how someone looks and feels. Over the years, I’ve become known for taking clients through dramatic changes while still keeping the hair healthy, luminous, and believable.
In film and television, I’m often brought in to help define a character through color — creating looks that feel natural to the story but still make an impact on screen. It’s one of my favorite parts of what I do because hair color is such a powerful storytelling tool. When it’s right, it becomes part of the character’s identity without ever distracting from it.
I’m also a hair extension specialist, and I approach extensions the same way I do color — everything has to blend seamlessly. My goal is to make hair look flawless but never “too perfect.” I want it to move, catch the light, and feel lived-in and real.
What sets me apart is probably my eye for detail and my ability to bridge both worlds — the artistry of film and editorial work with the personal connection of salon clients. I care deeply about making people look and feel their best, whether it’s for a red carpet, a camera close-up, or just everyday confidence.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory is the first time I went to England. I’m a first-generation American with dual citizenship, so it was really special to see the country my parents loved so much. Coming from a small town, that trip opened my eyes to the world — it made me realize there was so much more out there to explore, and it really shaped my curiosity and love for travel.
