Conversations with Jaime Gehly

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaime Gehly

Hi Jaime, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I studied drums at the McNally Smith College of Music in Minneapolis followed by master’s studies with legendary percussionist, Marv Dahlgren.

Shortly after that, I landed a record deal on MCA Records with a band called Sunset Black. After spending a number of years recording and touring with Sunset Black, I ultimately landed in Los Angeles where I would work as a session drummer and music producer for the next 15 years.

During this time, I got heavily involved with a charity called Rock Against Trafficking. We recorded benefit albums and hosted concerts to raise funding to combat human traffficking. I got to work with some of the most iconic names in music, all while supporting an amazing cause.

About four months ago, I began my journey live streaming on TikTok. I knew that this is where entertainment is heading and so I took three months of rent and set a goal to generate enough money to support myself within three months.

I reached my goal by the second month and it has continued to grow at an exponential rate. I’m gaining followers and having the best time of my life! I wake up every morning and play drums for a few hours at 10am and then again at 7pm (pst).

The show is always a lot of fun! I have different characters that I perform as ranging from an 80’s hair metal rocker to a redneck horse. There is always lots of audience participation and tons of humorous content.. and of course.. Drums!

In addition, I host a weekly drum circle with other streaming drummers from all across TikTok. That broadcasts live every Thursday beginning at 5pm pst.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Trying to make it as a musician is never an easy task. The journey has been difficult at times but amazing as well! We signed with MCA in 2002. In December of 2003, MCA filed bankruptcy and we lost our label support. Covid was a tough time to be a musician as well. You just have to be adaptable and resourceful. I ran a number of side businesses over the years as well. I still own a laser engraving business.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a professional drummer and musician. I am a full time live streamer on TikTok where I perform songs and entertain in real time.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Doing what I love! I am extremely fortunate to be able to make a living doing what I am passionate about. When it doesn’t feel like work, you’re in the right business!
