Conversations with Isak Jakobsson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Isak Jakobsson.

Hi Isak, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in Stockholm, Sweden and started playing the guitar when I was nine, since then I never looked back. I have always loved writing my own music and have always loved playing in bands. When I was in high school, I also started singing. After high school I started a band called Driving Cassady where I sang and played the guitar, I also wrote many of our songs. We released a few albums and did shows in Sweden, the UK and Italy. It was a great time in my life, but after a few years, we chose to break up the band.

That’s when I seized the opportunity to move to Los Angeles to go to Musicians Institute where I felt I found and developed my own voice. I guess you can say the idea of releasing my music as a solo artist was born here.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have dyslexia and it has been very difficult in school because of that. I have felt that I have been slow or stupid. With music, I never felt like that and it has always been my escape, like my sanctuary. It also gave me a way to express myself.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an Indie pop artist. I sing, play guitar and write my own songs that are happy but also melancholic. I have released an EP called Valley Fever and have I just released a video of Runaway, one of the songs from my EP.

I will be releasing a new single in the beginning of next year, so stay tuned for that!

What was your favorite childhood memory?
When I was in my room and had just gotten a guitar, my brother came in and played a Jimi Hendrix album that blew my mind. That’s when I knew I wanted to play guitar.
