Today we’d like to introduce you to İnanç Başarır
Hi İnanç, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Actually, I have been giving signals that I would be involved in art since my childhood. Of course, I realized this only as the years went by. I spent my childhood in the 90s and I can say that I benefited greatly from the blessings of those years. Recording my voice by singing along with karaoke tapes, writing song lyrics with short but funny phrases—these experiences influenced my musician side. The imaginative scenarios I created on the couches and inside my house also played a role in my clip directing. Since I developed an interest in technology, these abilities of mine faded until my high school years. In high school, I discovered the guitar, and suddenly all my childhood memories came rushing back. I began to see myself as a rockstar, as you might understand. These were also the years when I first stepped onto the stage. Later on, I studied music and sound engineering at university, and continued performing at bars, local concerts, and festival gigs. I also spent some time as a choir conductor and musical coordinator. Currently, I own a music studio called “Rapsodi Music Production.” Here, I record my own albums. My first album, “Unutana Kadar,” was a true apprenticeship album for me. My latest album, “Yola Ait,” is one where I have approached mastery a bit more. I am currently preparing a new single. At the same time, my team and I provide music lessons at the studio. Of course, the projects for which I am the producer and music video director are also ongoing.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, of course. Making music in my country and gaining both economic rewards and respect is not easy. Unfortunately, we are a small minority who value art. As a result, the audience we need to reach is limited, and it becomes more challenging to connect with our target audience due to the crowded nature of the internet in the music field. Securing good concerts is difficult, and local concerts often involve pointless politics. I don’t want to dwell too much on these issues.
On top of that, there is the practical aspect of the work. As musicians, we must keep our knowledge fresh and continually practice our psychomotor skills in every aspect of our lives. It is fun, but it is also undeniably tiring. Playing an instrument might seem easy to those who are not involved in it. I believe that fighting through all these difficulties is also part of what makes this work enjoyable. If you have supporters, all the challenges can be overcome. My wife, Yağmur, is my greatest supporter in this regard. My brother, Kıvanç, is also very supportive. Without them, I might not have progressed as much.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Of course, my primary focus is stage performance. Singing and interacting with people during concerts is the most enjoyable part of my work. Arranging, recording, and performing my own songs with my team is an incredible feeling. I also need to express my gratitude to my orchestra friends Erbil, Mahir, and Okan. I’m grateful for their presence. As I mentioned earlier, at our music studio, my team and I provide music lessons. We train young musicians and assist anyone who wants to pursue music as a hobby. Additionally, there is the music production aspect of my work. I manage all stages of our artists’ single or album projects at Rapsodi, including arranging, recording, mixing, mastering, music video shooting, and distribution to digital stores.
As for what sets me apart from others… I don’t believe I have a unique trait. I’m just an ordinary person who strives to make good music and help those who want to make good music.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Meeting and maintaining regular contact with people who are more knowledgeable and experienced than you is very important. Don’t be afraid to ask them questions and learn from them. And practice everything you learn extensively.
