Today we’d like to introduce you to Gisele Silva
Hi, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Gisele Silva, I’m Brazilian and I moved to Los Angeles 4 years ago. I am a performing artist, instructor and choreographer. I am a member of the hit Female Tap Dance Sensation Syncopated Ladies, touring with the group all across U.S.
I’m a teacher artist and performer with the Afro Brazilian Dance company Viver Brazil and on the east coast I work with the Tap company Music From The Sole.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I didn’t speak English, and that was definitely a challenge, I didn’t know how the dance industry works, it’s very different in Brazil , so I had to learn gradually, but I was lucky to have people with a lot of experience on my side.
Also getting an artist visa was the biggest challenge. I believe that people have no idea how hard it is to get a visa, and even with that, we still can’t work freely until we get a green card.
It’s a system that needs to be overhauled, I really hope that will change soon and that the life of a foreigner will be less complicated here.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I’m extremely happy to share that I will be in a movie!! It’s my first movie, what an amazing experience!
We dance, we Tap Dance.
We are praising this Black Art Form and placing it in a prominent place that for us has always been relevant but the mainstream did not always see in the same way.
Spirited will come out November 11th in the theaters and November 18th on Apple+.
Starring Ryan Reynolds, Will Ferrer and Octavia Spenser, choreographed by Chloe Arnold.
I can’t wait for y’all to see it.
