Today we’d like to introduce you to Gary Stomaun.
Hi Gary, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well, my birthname is Gary Stomaun and I was born and raised in South Central Los Angeles. I was raised by an amazing woman by the name of Aola Johnson. She raised me up by herself with instilling Christian values, and southern traditions that help shape me into the person that I am today. I’ve been part of the LA Music Scene consistently since 2010. I have been in positions to collaborate with some of the greatest creatives that LA has to offer. I have released two independent albums and looking forward to creating a third. I’ve continued to grow with not only my songwriting, but also my production and engineering. I’m looking forward to continual growth and guidance in all areas of music whether that is songwriting, production, playing an instrument, etc.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Man, Hell Nah. This can be very tiring and also at times discouraging. In my past, I’ve become easily distracted, However, it is the love of the music that always brings me back. Music has gotten me through some of my toughest times. I remember having to finish my first album, and my grandmother had just passed away. She was narrating the entire project, and just hearing her voice, crying in the booth, but still finished it all. It lets me know that I can get through anything and can use music as an outlet. Without music and God, I’m not too sure how I would have been able to get over life obstacles.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I started off my music career as a musician at church. I played the drums for multiple churches within the greater Los Angeles Area. I was able to connect to a lot of musical creatives through my time as a rapper… I collaborated with artists from Compton, Inglewood, Watts, and more. In 2016, I decided to turn my musicianship into producing. For the past few years, I have been focused on being more locked in on production. I see myself as a triple threat. I play an instrument, I rap, and I produce. I could put out my own my project by myself if I wanted to LOL. I’m willing to work with artists from either perspective if they coming to me for a verse or for beat. I’m a one-stop shop. I also don’t have a style; I can do it all.
We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Good Question. I’m actually working on my master’s program at them moment. I actually plan to pursue my Doctorate. Doctor Picclo would be crazy right??? LOL. I just see myself in a certain position and if I can show others that it’s possible. Especially from a kid from South Central Los Angeles.
