Conversations with Erik Russo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erik Russo.

Hi Erik, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I drove out from Rhode Island about five years ago and began my journey to Los Angeles in pursuit of a new life. In those five years, I’ve become an actor, an award-winning filmmaker, editor, producer, writer and cinematographer. I have made incredible friends and solidified some important professional relationships in the entertainment industry.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It wasn’t always easy. I struggled to find steady work the first few months. Sleeping on couches, financial struggles, self-doubt…I thought about going back home to Rhode Island on many occasions. But I knew with enough faith in myself and the power of perseverance, I’d make it work somehow. Now I live comfortably in Beverly Hills. I must be doing something right.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m primarily an actor at heart, but I have built a strong, reliable reputation of being a director, cinematographer and editor over the last few years. I have a background in Studio Art as well, which I still dabble in freehand illustrations now and then. I also have professional experience with Graphic Design.

I have taken all these skills and talents and I’ve been able to utilize them in all my creative output.

I’m proud of all the human connections I make though my art and I’m well-known in the industry for being a positive presence on any set.

My strong Rhode Island accent (It’s not part of New York!) definitely sets me apart from others. For better or worse.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I feel my positive outlook on ANY situation I’m given has contributed to my success. I bring a genuine sense of humor and keep things grounded whenever I’m around on a project. And I want to believe that kind of presence on a difficult set or project can elevate everyone else’s morale.
